....which is interesting because according to the DVLA, there are still 44,000 still registered on the road from a peak of 118,000 in 2003. Now, I've driven mine for 13 years and can remember them being pretty common. Based on the stats, you would expect to see 2 or 3 times fewer of them but it seems far less than that to me. I can't even remember the last time I saw a PFL or MFL on the road. I saw a FL a week or two ago but that's all. What's going on? Are people not using them as their 'regular drivers' any more?
-
I see loads in London, probably around 15 a day if Im paying attention, not many London Members though. :-\
-
There is 2 down my street :y
Must be 5 or 6 round here on a regular basis :)

Yes, still regularly see many down here. Three last week alone, with a 2.0 GLS being used by a window cleaner :y
-
How many were made 1994-2004?
I thought that total production was approx 60,000.
Obviously, I know nothing. :-[
-
A couple on the next road to me.
-
Loads round these parts. :y

I believe that a premium luxury car such as the Omega, was originally purchased by "well to do" types. Doctors, solicitors, head teachers, senior managers.....................you know the sort of people.
Now their value has dropped like a stone these once proud and majestic cars are now driven by the shady reprobates here at OOF. ::) ::) ;)
-
A few around here :y including two in my road ::)
They seem to have been overlooked by the spotted yoofs, and gone from being a very good value nearly new car to worthless, underated and generally ignored :-\
It's all about fuel costs nowadays :-\ the Omega is obviously a bit lacking in that department, but more than makes up for it elsewhere :y Mainstream Execs were always considered a liability, always breaking down, lots of expensive potential electrical issues, but the reality of the Omega means only five or six items that always cause problems, all well documented here, and all easily fixed :y
Long may they last :y
-
Dont blame me,its all Twiglets fault. :P ;D

Indeed, and it is easy to forget that Ford gave up on their business exec class car the Granada / Scorpio back in the 1990's, leaving Vx to go it alone with the Omega. Finally, as much as we love them, Vx decided the Omega no longer had a large enough potential market to justify production and a revamp, leaving that sector of the market to the big boys of BMW, Merc and Jaguar (now owned by Ford). This was no doubt compounded by the fact company car fleets that bought the business exec models have been changed dramatically by tax changes that resulted in employees having to pay a contribution (growing!!) towards their shiny new company car, unlike me who had a "free" one well before the tax changes came in. Indeed, when they did start taxing your company car I was doing so much business mileage I did not pay any tax towards my car.
So for Ford, now with Jaguar, no doubt a wise move in retrospect, but with Vx /Opel.......?
Merc, BMW and latterly Jaguar has certainly taken the business exec market over. ;)
-
See hardly any around here :-\ saw an estate on the A55 about 3 weeks ago that's about it.
-
Dont see any around here , mines been cubed . Interesting that there is still 44000 registered :o
-
Still see a few round here, mostly F/L.But also two early cars,a 2.5TD saloon and a 2.0 petrol saloon.By the way Lizzie Ford no longer own Jaguar, they sold it along with Land Rover to the Indian company Tata who also own most if not all of what used to be British Steel.
-

Thanks! :y :y I had forgotten that, but you wonder then why Ford did offload their foothold in the large exec car market ;)
-
See 3 every day(mine) and if am lucky 1 or 2 others during the summer months. Did see a Tourer made into a pick up on German plates about 3 months ago. Dark purple that looked black, lower to the deck.
-
There is loads down my neck of the woods and the Thames Valley, and i also saw a very old Carlton on my way home today :o , looked very well looked after too, until I saw who was driving it :-X
-
There are a couple here and one a PFL and I live by the sea ;) :y

I work in Stockton-on-Tees as often see 2 or 3 as I drive around the Borough, mostly 2.2..... :y :y

Happy with the car considering the price paid. I think if i could have afforded one new (29k) i would have been slightly pished about it.
-
Loads around here. There were 9 in my road alone not so long back... Oh hang on, they were all mine! :-[ ;D
-
:D :D :D twiglet you daft bugger :D :D :D
-
i see 4/5 on my way into work and it only a 11 mile drive, 2 of them in the same carpark at work mine being newest of them all
-
I flew past 2 on the A29 last night, one was a Mini facelift 3.0 elite saloon and the other a facelift 2.2 cdx estate, both where being driven by miss daisy, mine was being driven to the legal limit of course.(cough.cough) :y
With a banging shocker as well!!
-
I've got an old 1984 Nissan 300ZX in the barn, howmanyleft.co.uk says only 46 left on the road, it's a shame mine will most likely never be roadworthy.
Don't let the mig's rot folks, one day the values will rise and line our grand children's pockets.
-
arrived in Brussels a few hours ago and immediately sat behind Omega Estate or Caravan as it is known. Mind you only saw the one. Loads of VWs.
-
There's a few about in maidenhead
-
I see a '53' CD saloon with the very limited run 16'' version of the late style Elite wheels. I haven't seen any others around for some time. Although, any that are about are always attributed to me ;D

No accounting for taste ::)
-
Very few round this way now, never see any on my journey too & from work.
-
There's a couple round here, both 2.2s
Funny, whenever I'm on a motorway and spot one I can't help but inform swmbo, she shows no interest whatsoever! ;D
-
I see them all......for spares for my cars ;) ;D

I never thought your history would let you down Lizzie. Jaguar Land Rover Ltd have been owned for several years by that well known Indian company Tata Motors. Their long term investment plan and goals for the company is certainly paying off. :y

Ford killed their executive market with the "ugly frog" design. I'm surprised with the number of Brands that GM have that they did not create an up market brand, much like VW have with Audi and import re-engineered RHD drive US and Australian vehicles in much bigger numbers. :y
There is very limited choice these days if you want a big luxury, load carrying, estate car. A good mile eater and RWD. You have basically got the E-Series Merc and the new Jag Shootbrake. I'm not a fan of 4x4 with their high centre of gravity or convinced about cross over vehicles like the Volvo XC90, which is FWD drive anyway.

GM have tried to launch Cadillac over here at least three times in the last fifteen years ::) never quite cuts the mustard though :-\

Do not worry Rods2 I remember now! ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

I see 2 every day, even if I don't leave home ;D
The only other one I've seen in the last week is a Silver 3.2 parked on Tunnie's drive as I drove past.
-
I pass a 2.2 saloon in dark grey and a 2.5 pfl estate in gold every day. Not far from me is a silver 2.2 estate on a 52 plate and I used to have an 04 plate 2.6 estate pass me each morning.
