Title: Number plate machines?
Post by: Del Boy on 20 February 2013, 11:05:50
Does anyone know anything about number plate machines or the software on them? I'm looking at buying one, however there's plates that come out like cheap tatty rubbish like this:

And good ones come out like this, a nicer more reflective blue, and better colouring, the GB bit goes right up to the edge of the plates, and they don't look printed:

Used a printer and software years ago, prints of the number plate then place clear plastic over the top and then use a roller machine to stick both together, was ok but never 100% good, used to chew up the number plate vinyl or not print corectly.usally the number plate supplier can do software and printer and supply plates and backing

Please find below a link for registering yourself as a DVLA approved number plate supplier which, you may already know this Del, you have to be.

https://www.gov.uk/register-as-number-plate-supplier

Hope this helps. :y :y

Yeah a printer is what it'll have to be, I want a quality one, don't want to be selling cheap looking rubbish like the top car  :-\.

Given cost of a decent one, is it not worth just sourcing them from good eBay supplier?

I'd imagine you would have to make a lot to make a printer worth while?

Do they come out similar to the bottom one?

Tunnie - I get them from eBay if I need them now, but it's just something that seems pretty good business as a little side line.  :y

I get through plates like it's going out of fashion Del! I pay just under £20 for x2 plates with GB Euro decal and my website at the bottom. I'm happy with that price. I would mention though, the need to be able to create 21''x6'' rear plates as per Range Rover's, Bentley's etc. If you can do those, I'll be a good customer  ;D

(You can't really see it as he was driving at breakneck speed like a plonker, but the plate was "DEL 180Y" or .. "DEL 1BOY")
