Title: Fuel Use...
Post by: T-rev on 23 February 2013, 10:56:20
Hi all, just to ask what might be a straight forward and obvious answer, i have a blown mid box on the exhaust which is being sorted monday, but i have noticed higher fuel consumption since this went.....Is this the likely cause, as i can see no signs of leaks and so on. Thanks. :-\

Exhaust holes do have the potential to screw up the engines closed loop fuelling, so as said above, its a possibility :y

But only if the holes are before the first lambda sensor, IMO.

Big exhaust leaks always up the fuel usage.

Exhaust leak at the start of the system has the potential to draw in air and upset lambda readings is my guess.

Hi, to carry on with this, i have just had the offending part replaced but have yet to see what the fuel usage is now...I also have error code 0430 and the EML light staying on, so should this now clear itelf, catalyst related...By the way, any good tips on purchasing a rear O/S spring as mine has broken...Thanks... :(

EML will need to be cleared via a code reader or a session with a Tech 2 machine, as for the broken spring you must always replace in an axel pair , try kyb springs as they are resonable quality and price too.
Gary.

0430, get cleared, but I suspect it may come back. Solution is to move one of the lamdas. The solution is NOT to replace the cat, no matter how retarded the technician is.
