:y should be if it was running ok but I would do it as soon as possible and try not to drive it
-
Heck of a way to go to collect ???
-
Be a nice little road trip :y
-
its only 1000 miles round trip, day away from the missis, trip up there on mega-bus for 37 quid so not too bad, think be little more on way back, will nurse it on way back, if all else fails rac will be chuffed with me with a 500 mile relay
-
Been advised it's the head gasket that needs changed
Aye ::) I think thats quite a common saying isnt it ;D
Nice buy :)
-
He said he wants £300-£400.why did you not offer him the £300 :-\ :-\ :y
-
i did, but someone else offered the 400 after who lived in inverness and he gave me all details to show he wasnt having me over, but give guy his due he called me said if i was to match as i had offered first to buy i could have first refusal
-
Cracking value at that money. Best of luck with it.

arr right still car looks ok for the price :y :y

I spotted that one and wished it wasnt so far away.I would have snapped it up if it was nearer. If you make it home under its own steam that cooling system is going to need a hell of a lot of flushing.I would want a bootful of containers full of water with some automatic washing machine liquid mixed in,and drain and refill it a few times on the way back. ;)

AND OIL TOO ;) ;) also remember that the oil in the engine will deteriate because of water getting into it so might will do damage so if you have RAC or AA see if they will get you home. :y
-
Coolant doesnt get into the oil,but oil does get into the coolant. ;)
But yes,the amount of oil in the engine will lessen as some of it is finding its way into the coolant,so would be an idea to carry a litre to top up with. :y

When mine went the oil was the same colour as the water a horrible caramel colour, water had got into it too.
-
The safest way to get it back with out to much damage,
would be drive it down the road about 50 miles or till it needs a top up then phone rac.
also check your rac cover,
-
Would be safer hiring a trailer and tow back , then no more damage can be done ;)
-
When my mates oil cooler went on his 4-pot (few years back now) it wouldn't do 20 miles without overheating let alone 500 !! The rad just gets too bunged up to allow any water to circulate at all.
:(
-

Couldnt tow it with an Omega though.Would need to have a bigger vehicle.Combined weight of an Omega and trailer must be around 3 tonnes.

Aye,disco or shogun or similar.
-
as i said i got rac so it will get home, just watch this space, but had crossed my mind to carry water and oil, and as i found out with mine dishwasher tablets clean the system extremely well
-
I remember driving mine back long distance and thinking whats that burning smell , then smoke from under the hood ::) Being my first omega i realized it was the plug wells full of oil only when i got back ;D It misfired a bit as well but it did get me home 200 mile all be it a little smokey ;D
-
things we do to keep these cars on the road, did consider putting it on a-frame behind my 4x4 due to it being a manual, but to do that will cost another 300 in fuel and somewhere to stay for night as a long drive to do in one hit, also means missis would want to come lmao
-

hi boys and girls, as red baron says the car is great and i got home under its own steam, no oil in water or water in oil, the oil loss is from cam covers, water is sparkling blue with anti-freeze and she didnt miss a beat the whole 500 miles back, did it back in 8hrs too in one hit, left at 3pm was home by 11pm, what shocked me was it only used 1 tank of fuel and showed a respectable 30mpg all way average, she tracks true and if release steering wheel the car doesnt wander at all, as with all 2nd hand cars has a few probs, window switch for o/s/r on drivers control dont work, the climate has mind of its own and one min it red hot next cold, both i have the parts to fix, the centre console lid catch broke and couple dash bulbs out, not exactly bank breaking stuff, brakes do need attention as listing says, the bodywork is very straight and couldnt see any damage bar a puncture hole in rear bumper, interior is spottless, no history on cam belt so first thing im going to do, plugged it in checked all systems and not a fault code in all the car all in all a bargain and so glad i went for it oh and now the giggle, got all the way back to stoke on the m6 and got a phone call on my phone from the guy who i bought it off, "sorry to bother you but when i cleaned car out i left my i-phone on the back seat, oppps so thats going snail mail back tomozz, think hed of phoned his own phone to check first"
-
:y
-
Good buy worth all the effort then :)
-

-
