Ok last time i posted car wouldn't start...some wise people told me to check crank sensor THANK YOU, which i did and had to replace that , the line was melted into was only holding together by the plastic coating on the outside..But after changing that the car still wont start .. fuel pump not coming on so replaced the relay( Was told it was stuck) wasn't getting any power to the fuel pump fuse under dash ,changed fuse also..So now i have power can heard the fuel pump come on i try to start car it turns over but still wont start, check plugs no spark, check fuse under dash again, no power to fuel pump, fuel pump not coming on again...confused now help!!!!

Did you use a genuine sensor?
-
advance auto....was think about that to...

First thing the ECU does when it detects cranking is to pull in the fuel pump relay, so I agree crank sensor is still in the frame.
Not sure if the ECU you got over the pond primes the fuel pump, but I believe the drive-by -wire cars here do. In that case you should hear the fuel pump run for a couple of seconds when the key is turned to position II. That will at least eliminate the fuel pump circuit from suspicion, and also prove that the ECU is getting power. (it has both switched and permanent 12v feeds, and a feed from the purple relay next to the fuel pump relay).

Does the paperclip/pedal trick work on the catera ?? which engine is it ?? Any EML light on ?

Check all the large fuses in the ext box on top of the battery.
-
if purple relay-fuel was shot check other purple relay not damaged too-thats engine control relay-paired wires according to wiring diagram lead back to crank sensor :y

Any codes? Paper clip test? Bet you get a 19 - crank sensor - should fit genuine ;)
-
ok switched cranksensor and car starts right up.....now the problem is when i rev to 2000 rpms the engine cuts back as if not getting gas ,put a test light on fuse for fuel pump while doing this and when it reaches 2000 rpms the fuse loses power ,cant rev car or drive the car over 2000 rpms it cuts back.....check engine light comes on but goes off as soon as you let off gas

and the code is??

doesn't show code...... the check engine goes away....and couldnt pull one while giving revs to car
-
Switched to a new, genuine sensor or another pattern one ???
-
If you've fitted a genuine GM crank sensor try it with maf disconnected ;)
-
replacement crank sensor is made by BWD.... someone replace the original and this one looks like the one i took off, heres the problem car starts good, idle is normal but if you try to go over 2000 rpms the car loses power the fuel pump dies out only can drive at about 10 mph.... So i figure try another crank sensor...local store out of stock has to order one for me...so i put crank sensor back on car so i can check it with my friends code reader (while i wait for another cps)....re try this time the car starts and cuts off in 1 sec.... ??? well now i do have some codes stored but wont be able to read until the morning..but could it be the crank sensor still? or something else

You need the codes reading but the symptoms do fit :y
You need to fit a genuine Crank Sensor... Nothing else is reliable ;) It's not uncommon for pattern sensors to fail from new ::)

Third time lucky.
There's a maintenance guide on here which highlights problems associated with incorrect crank sensors.

defected crank sensor...replaced and riding again....thanks for the help :y

Bet it diesn't last long ::)

Pattern ...BWD
I hope you're getting your money back from all of these copy parts. ;) ;) ;) Bite the bullet & buy one from your local fiendish Caddy/GM dealer ;) ;) It'll be cheaper & easier in the end. :y :y

For the 6th time in this thread... Get a genuine sensor ;)
