Driving to a job today ,pulled in to layby to take a phone call ,sat a couple of minutes maybe less and engine stopped ,never done that before ,started again at second attempt, pulled away and felt ok then did it again so managed to get in a gateway to have a look , starts and runs fine for maybe 30/45 seconds then cuts out aprubtly not like fuel starvation but could be , so got towed home !!
just paperclipped it and am getting..
49 glow device general error
64 fuel quantity (always had that)
84 immob no signal (oh dear)
92 cruise control (not got that )
So any input welcome please !!! I was going to change fuel filter and see if that helped, but do I have an immobiliser issue ???
Just to clarify its a 1998 2.5 td
TIA

changed filter this morning now wont fire at all !!
where do I start to look for faults???

paper clipped again now getting
82 sensor injector start incorrect rpm
but not immob issue maybe i got that wrong last night ,only two flashes out ;D

Pop to Jimbob, clear out whats in there, so we can see whats old and whats current.
The cruise one will always be there until you put on a cruise stalk.

would do but wont go at all at the moment!!

Is there fuel in the fuel filter? If not, top it up with diesel.
If that doesn't help, follow the bleed procedure (whilst cranking, loosen the nut on top of injector until fuel spurts out, tighten, move on to next). Dont burn out starter motor though...

An obvious one I know, but how much fuel's in the tank? :-\

plenty in ,dont generaly go below 20lt
battery tired now ,will try hooking up to other car , just been listening in boot to see if tank pump is running ,but cant hear it ticking.

Best to hook-up a good battery first, and then remove the filler cap. Get someone to sit in the car and turn on the ignition, and (you) listen at the filler neck. You should hear the in-tank pump running for around maybe 30 seconds to a minute-ish, whilst it pressurises the fuel system.
If the in-tank pump is suspect, here's the guide: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90611.0
;)

Though if there is more than a 1/3rd of a tank of fuel, usually the FIP can suck it through even if the tank pump is tired...
-
topped up diesel filter to brim. cracked of injector , cannot get fuel to come through, there was fuel in filter anyway.not even trying to fire ,just turning over.
cant actually tell if tank pump is running but plenty in tank
-
Franks Dad - how much in the tank? Less than a 1/3rd?

True enough TB; but it's highly likely that the fuel system's empty forward of the in-tank pump.
IME the injection pump won't cope thence ... and you really need to 'start at the start' so to speak - Markseth's old TD was an episode that I'll not forget in a hurry! >:(
That car actually needed a new in-tank pump (120 bucks-ish from Vx IIRC), before cleaning out the swirl pot/tank and fitting a new fuel filter.
Still running like a good 'un to date! ;)

between 35/40 ltrs so plenty to go at ,think I will have to delve into tank pump , I did clean it out last spring re the guide all seemed to be ok.
-
just undone all lift pump lid etc and disconnected pipes switch on ign and nothing happening, does lift pump have fuse ?
-
So as far as I can tell lift pump in tank is not running , would this have caused engine to stop and run intermittently or should injector pump have been able to pull fuel through?
Either way it is now a non starter , will pm Andy c to try and source new pump ,unless anyone has a proven used one kicking about?
Have just put new boots on it otherwise may have called it a day I think :'(

Yes indeed, in my experience!

Before releasing the 4 retaining clips mentioned, it'll be necessary to release the 'ribbed' pipe:
Said pipe is released by PRESSING the horse-shoe retaining clip forwards - the pipe will then release from the T-piece, and allow the complete pump assembly to be lifted clear of the swirl-chamber. You'll also need to release the feed wiring connector (blue/red wires) as in:
At this point KEEP THE UNIT WELL CLEAR OF ANY CONDUCTABLE SURFACE, and connect a test lamp across the connector, then get an assistant to turn-on the ignition.
Said test-lamp should illuminate (and indicate no electrical supply problem).
OBVIOUSLY, BE VERY CAREFUL WHILST DOING THIS TEST, AS YOU HAVE A TANK OF FUEL IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY!
If the foregoing does indeed point to a defective in-tank pump, I'd recommend a genuine Vx replacement.
Part number for pump is 90509674, and it'll set you back around 120 bucks!
Also advise removing and/or thoroughly cleaning the swirl-chamber and tank plus fitting a new fuel filter.

Thanks Seth , will try to evaluate it properly today.
