I've been reviewing the various posts and maintenance guides regarding alternators, mine having recently packed in on my 3.2 Elite Saloon. Some really good and helpful info here.
What I'm not clear on is the replacement remanufactured alternator. It appears that both the 3.0 and 3.2 have the same part no and the terminals match those of the 3.0, which is not the same as the 3.2 Elite.
Does this mean that the remanufactured replacements only have terminals to suit the 3.0 or is it possible to obtain one that matches the 3.2?
I've got a replacement but have had trouble fitting the cables due to the terminals.
I would be grateful for any info.

Another member had problems getting the right alternator out of VX for a 3.2 recently. As you say, they are different and not interchangeable unless you butcher the wiring loom. Seems that they have messed up their part numbering somewhere.
To be honest, it's only the voltage regulator that fails most of the time. A regulator and a couple of bearings (as these are normally getting rough by the time it fails) and an hour or so rebuilding it will see your alternator back as good as new for about £30. :y
Failing that, get a recond one from a decent auto electrical place. Getting the correct one out of Vauxhall appears to be a farce at the moment.

Ah. So Vauxhall have not sorted the part numbers then. Basically they have 3.0 alternators labelled up as 3.2 alternators. The 3.0 does not fit on the 3.2. Due to the position and width of the connectors. As you may have found.
My parts man in Slough had to scour the Vauxhall network to find one at another dealers, because Luton sent he exact same part 3 times incorrectly due to the boxing error.
You actually want the 1.40 amp upgraded part. (Apparently)
Pic of the differences, 3.2 at the top. 3.0 at the bottom

I would add, given the agro I had, refurbishing would have been way quicker, as Kevin Wood points out.

Many thanks for the comments.
I'll look into getting a regulator for the old one.

Further info on the replacement alternator.
Vauxhall lists part number R1530056 for the 3.2 Elite which comes with wrong terminals.
I understand from the posts that to get the correct terminals, an upgraded 140A is the one to get which carries part number R1530055 I am lead to believe?
Could anyone verify this number?

The problem has been that number has not given the part pictured historically. This part was sourced from another dealer. NOT Luton.
Check the part looks like the one pictured.

Thanks again for all the info.
I've attached a link below for a site that seems quite good for part nos etc, Vx's listed at the end of each section.
It's probably known about but just in case.
