Title: Interest in an Airfield meet for handling etc
Post by: feeutfo on 02 March 2013, 16:07:15
Waiting details of where and when from a member here who is very busy. So, I thought it sensible to make sure there was enough interest from people here, before pestering him any further as I don't want to waist his time if nobody turns up or there is no interest. Although I'll be well up for it even if I'm there on my own. ;D

So, initial idea was to do a bit if tyre testing, but depending on the airfield and layouts available I suspect I bit of hooning might be in order as well. Main interest is to try and sort some handling issues for members.
Try each others cars or wheels with different tyres fitted for ride comfort, stability, body roll and general handling of the omega with different suspension and bushes fitted etc. No obligation, and fitting someone else's new tyres to unset up cars will be a bit of a no no. So owners discretion required. And bring your latest set up sheet as proof perhaps your car isn't going to destroy someone else's rubber.

Anyway, you get the general idea. Of course, no racing will be allowed. ::) ;D

Location looks like it will be in the region of the m40 a34 a43 junctions so fairly central.

Cost looks very reasonable at this stage just a nominal fee to cover liability insurance for the airfield.

Facility's might include a lift in what was previously a fire station. So should be able to work on cars under cover at least. Cafe on site iirc.

Precise details to follow hopefully. But if your interested please say so now, but be prepared for disappointment if it doesn't happen or dates are wrong for you.

Dates tbc.

This could be a rare oppertunity to play on an airfield and see how your cars handling might be improved, or not, as the case may be.

Please add your name just to show interest, for now.  :y

Given the location, is this likely to be anywhere near upper heyford (Bicester) ?

Should also mention - my interest is provisional depending on work dates. I don't have an Omega to bring, so can't contribute in that sense, but will help out where I can and if nothing else, it will be good to see faces old and new :y

Looking at google maps reveals several possibles. Theres 5 or 6 airfields around there. It "could" be even further afield though so speculation is fairly pointless at this stage. :)

Actually, I've got some linglongs that refuse to die, and some Falkens that are begging for a fitting end. If I can find some wheels to fit them to.

<Wanders of muttering> now if i fit the 17's to hold the mv6 up, then I'd have spare 18's to kill tyres with... Hmmmm  :)

When playing silly buggers on a crash investigators practical course (some years ago now, truth be told) we played on a WW2 bomber field up here in Scotland. Used a couple of astras and a sierra (ex job, destined for unsuspecting punters at auction) as toys and plan was to drive them down on road rims and tyres then do a swap for linglongs and remoulds then playtime.

When done, swap the now thruppeny bit profile tyres (seriously, too many J turns fekked them beyond belief!!) for original road tyres then drive them home.

Pity help those who bought an ex job car from Grampian back in the mid/late 90's!!   ;D

Doz mate, as the first post, nothing is certain yet. No dates so far, not even a venue. Just looking at interest levels so far. ;)
But somewhere nearer warmer weather mite by a good idea. Although rain can be fun too. In fact probably more fun. ;)

I think due to the amount of effort needed to arrange this, we need to know interest levels before going further :)

It's an opportunity not to be passed up, if only as a chance to compare a variety of tyre and suspension set up options for the Omega  :y

The chance for a play is a nice bonus 8)

Wonder if its worth getting a tyre fitter in? Events tyres or similar...? :-\

Anyone know what they charge? Might not be worth the bother.

I was thinking about the Kwaka, just to see what it could do if fully opened up away from tin cans...  ...but then have no way of getting it there.

Rude not to Rob. Rude not to. :y

Spoke to Josh and Nitro and a few members tonight. All looks very promising. Indeed. Details to follow, but please continue to be patient, as you all have been. :y

Location is Bicester area, some possible dates are being discussed. I suppose these "might" be week days, as there's favours involved and a business being run in the back ground, so we will have to prepare ourselves for that possibility, and accept what's offered. But obviously we'll get more numbers on a weekend.

We'll see. :y

This is being arranged on a "for favours basis" so with that in mind, it would be totally unfair to go chasing people up and pestering for dates. That's not going to happen.

I appreciate the excitement surrounding this event, but we will have to wait and see if we are in luck, or not, I'm afraid.

Got everything crossed here too. ;) :y
