Title: Lizzie's Computer Repair Procedure
Post by: Lizzie_Zoom on 08 March 2013, 18:35:36
My PC has  over the last week been playing up.  Three times it cut out with the power going off after going into standby. Once it also cut right out whilst working on a piece of written work.

I was not happy, and as most know I have no problems using a computer, but understanding how they work; well forget it!! ::) ::) ::) :P

So my repair procedure to cure my PC problem?  Call an engineer?  No way, it would be as bad as putting my miggy into a dealer for repair! :o :o :o :o

Instead I treated it like a naughty child..................giving the tower three hard smacks!

All working fine now! ;D ;D ;)

It is Del. :y :y

I am going to write up a manual; front, middle, and back page will just show a hand with a full description of the angle and mathematical explaination of the "repair procedure" ;D ;D ;D ;)

Yup is is the part that you plug the power lead into and it has a fan unit on it and a shed load of wires coming out, they are reasonably easy to change, if you can do a dis pack on a miggy then it should be a sinch.  ;) :y

Thanks Kevin :y :y

If my "repair" doesn't last I'll do that.  Funnily enough the fan has been making loud running noises for two years now, but is now quite! :D :D :D ;)

Yep, take it down to the garage, open it up and give it a good blast with an airline to get rid of the dust. :y

If the PSU fans noisy Lizzie a short blast of WD40 through back onto shaft usually cures it ;)

I used to work with a bloke who, if the IT dept couldn't sort his problem over the phone, would grab the keyboard and smash it across all the accessible components until something happened. Didn't care what.
After a couple of instances of this, he was the only person in the company who got his complaints dealt with immediately!

May I remind you who won? ;)

I agree I had a few cuts on my knuckles, but the Laserjet came off worse.

Parts of said Laserjet have now been welded into the lawnmower, so it went to a good home.

Cant fault you Lizzie, I used to fix my Fisher video by picling it up at one end end dropping it back on the table, if it didnt work I then picked the whole thing up and dropped it on the table.   ::)

If your PC is shutting down when its then consider the CPU cooler and the fact it may well be full of dust, I sorted one out last week and the fins were chokka.  Kevins is a good idea, but you might find in easier to get a tin of Air Duster from the likes of maplins (or ebay)(2 x tins works out a ted more exspensive inc delivery)  :y
