Title: That's some difference!
Post by: danzigfan on 10 March 2013, 12:32:43
I had some work to do on my omega this week and it all came out just perfect.
Throttle body now clean, ICV, cam cover replaced (again)

and most important I replaced exhaust manifold yesterday...now that makes a difference!
I was afraid my 4-pot needs new hydraulic lifters after sounding like this for last few months when cold

But then I figured out it could be leaking manifold's fault so I went for a cheaper solution first an it worked

She sounds beautiful now so I need to thanks to a member here Abiton for sending me exaust manifold all the way to where I live. Thank you again

The old manifold was already welded few years back it seems. Had a new crack anyway

Thing is why do they crack ? It was the same on the 2.0 vectra , they all cracked in the same place  >:(

Cast iron manifold firmly bolted to aluminium head. Differential thermal expansion means that something has to give. Whether it is the gasket or the casting that fails is down to luck really :(

I had the identical problem on my 2.2, I guess it was a design fault

I broke just one stud getting the old one off

The 2.2 ones do seem prone to this.

Whilst the thermal aspect may have an impact, I don't think its the primary cause, as others don't suffer as bad. I'd guess either poor design, or poor casting.

It was well known the 2.0 vectra ones all cracked , i went to quite a few breakers and everyone was cracked in there as well  :( Someone did me a favour and wrote the car off so i didnt get round to fixing it  ;D

Or bad flow causing hotspots perhaps ???
