Title: Power sounder or battery or charging prob
Post by: pscocoa on 11 March 2013, 21:10:31
I have been through the power sounder threads but cannot see exact fault that started tonight.

Car left at station all day and only done 5 miles in last week. Came back to car tonight, turned key and high pitched sound started which went off after 10 seconds driving. Drove a couple of miles and switched off ignition, restarted and high pitched sound started again and went off after few seconds of driving car.

Kevin wrote a long analysis on charging issues in 2008 so wondering if failing battery could create this condition.

Views appreciated.

Deffo power sounder issue - you will find your battery flat at best (same symptoms & result on our Estate) or on fire at worst.  Disconnect powersounder and bin asap :y

Hmmm - no problem today so far - could be main car battery on way out - will get it tested

The power sounder does sound if the main battery voltage drops too low during cranking.

As a start, I would give the battery an overnight charge to ensure it's fully charged, then follow the maintenance guide to determine if the battery or alternator are defective.

Could also be the power sounder starting to play up, of course. If it's never been touched, I would remove, re-battery it or replace with a new one.

Ok - it is not the sounder but 2 dead cells in the battery which has now been changed. Only problem now is I have lost sound from radio/cd/phone so speakers have become disconnected somehow. Checking now as to what has happened. Change of battery has also cured (maybe temporary) my erratic CID.

I suppose someone will come on and advise Please read the manual but I sorted the sound out on NCDC by holding down on/off button for several seconds. First time sound came on and went off after a few seconds - but a couple of repeats of this process finally restored the sound to the speakers. I have changed battery just once before and this did not happen - anyhow back to normal and no need to dump the power sounder thankfully.

I would still either replace the PS or fit new batteries to it.
