Title: Timing chain or belt
Post by: ronnyd on 19 March 2013, 16:50:11
Can anyone inform me if the 2.2 petrol engines on the later Omega,s have a timing belt
or chain. Have heard horror stories about chains recently, thanks.

As above, all petrol engine Omegas are belt. Full kit of tensioners + Belt + waterpump on 2.2, must be changed every 40k/4 years, which ever is first

2.2 DTi & 2.5TD are chain  :y

Once owned a Vecta 2.2 and bloody thing broke down other side of Brum, called out Green Flag and the half witted chap firmly told me my cam belt had snapped.
I firmly told him it was chain driven but what do i know being only a butcher, Ha more than him it would seem.  ;D ;D

I don't understand, what is going on with German cars (Omega). All cars need timing belt changed around 100K miles. Is English mile = american mile?
American mile is 1.6 km.
Do Germans buy tensioner bearings from China?

2.2 vectras were chain driven but known for snapping the chain if not serviced regularly as the oil feed jet would block and starve the chain of oil there was a recall on it where they fitted a larger jet

Twice they tried to up it to 80k/8yrs, both times the failure rates were outside of acceptable limits. Thats not to say belts/bearings won't last that long - we've all seen 100,000+ mile Omegas on original belts...
