Title: Headlights poor illumination

Hi,just a query I have a '96 2.5L and the headlight illumination is very poor I have cleaned the lens with the necessary acrylic cleaner and still very poor,any ideas?

Xenon or Halogen ?


I've tried different types of "Halogen" bulbs cheap and expensive and Orsram are the best (of what brands i've tried that is) for halogen although dip isn't that great. Xenon is the way to go to have good lights.

Bulbs lose brightness, 17 years old bulbs probably lost 50% of light.

Doubt its still got original bulbs in probably blew years ago the originals ?

headlights were poor on my r reg i thought,but the xenons on my facelift are superb!

They will be halogen on 96 car.

Those ribbed lenses are shite TBH, even after a good clean, will still have a yellowing/cloudiness to them. If you can get them perfectly clean/clear, you stand a chance.

The MFL projector halogens are better, still need occasional polish up, and are a plug and play swap (may need to get garage to realign). Downside is the left/right adjuster is made of cheese.

If you want it better still, invest is some Osram Nightbreaker bulbs.

You'll probably find that the reflective coating on the inside of the back of the units is all broken up and peeling away, meaning that the beam pattern is shot to pieces, and less light in total gets out forwards.

Only solution is replacement headlight units IME.
