Seriously, to the guy that invented these...you deserve to be dragged to the city hall steps and publicly whipped for 7 days. Honestly, who in their right mind thought these were a decent replacement for stock standard jubilee clamps. My bruised and bleeding fingers thank you very much Sir, my swear box is now full. :P

Ahh, but they work much better than jubilee clips. No pinch point and never over- or under-tightened. :y
-
You have my sympathies! ::) Frustrating little buggers arn't they?? >:(

Agreed, and with correct tooling easy to open :y
-
Yeah granted they work well, in an open space, but in a tight place where you can barely get your hands into, trying to get these off is an absolute nightmare, I tried water pump pliers, long nose, normal pliers, but what should be a 10 second job loosening a jubilee clamp turned into an hours job trying to remove 3 of these damn things. They haven't won my vote, lol. :P

Swear box is compulsory with omega's' , but it gets easier after practice and many plasters ;D
Mole grips are your friend 8)

Essential in every Omega Owner's tool box IMHO :y

..............and in the production plant they are much quicker / cheaper to fit than a jubilee clip! That is why designers went for them. If you don't like them, replace them! :D :D ;) ;)

I would if I could get the stupid things off.

Try using long nose pliers, sideways onto the "tabs", or a large pier of pliers covering all the tabs. I find they work a treat! :D :y :y

Mmmmm, How much and where from ?
-
You can get them from the bay, but quite expensive.
What price knuckle and finger tip preservation though ;D
-
search hose clip pliers on ebay, loads of em.
-
"jubilee"-type clips leave a leak path around the worm mechanism. These don't - and for that reason they are superior.
..... and yes they're a real sod to fit, but that's the price for something superior I'm afraid

What in the world is that thing?
It's a tool for getting them off easy, an essential tool for anyone with an omega
Had this in my garage since i bought the car, and I have used it alot, with this you don't need to fit stupid jubilee clips :P
It clamps down on the clips and holds them down till you release them with the little lever
-
There's rather a lot of those to move when you change a radiator .... but with the right tool it was a piece of doddle, both on and off :)
A small investment but worth every penny if you intend to work on the car yourself :)
-
Always used a very small pair of mole grips myself - easy enough even in a confined space ;)
-
My pet hate is the one on the coolant transfer pipe going to the thermostat.

I thought you employed a butler for such menial tasks, Lizzie. :) :-* :-*

Not recommended. The sprung ones ensure that the tension applied is correct, and not affected by expansion/contraction.

I don't have too much trouble with the clip... ...but removving the pipe from the xfer pipe is the reason for 2 dents on the wing of the bullet... ...which that nasty Zok fella drew smiley faces in at Newent... ...with a permenent marker :o. MikeDundee told him to, therefore its all Darth Loo-knee's fault.

New pipe. Hammer and gentle chisel them apart 2 mins and job done

I could have used a chisel on Zoks head, and a hammer on Dundee's >:( ;D

Considering the millions of them that have been used since Cdr Robinson patented them in 1921, that has got to be far more of a technical possibility than an actual problem. I've never had a Jubilee clip on a coolant hose leak, and a properly tightened one leaves identical marks on the hose as the spring clips. I have had spring clips leak, normally caused by distortion removing the thing. I'll stick with binning the spring clips(once I've eventually removed the damn things) and replacing them with something I find easier to use and is more satisfactory.
I do have the spring type pliers pictured here, and another set that lock directly onto the clamp. They both make it easier, but are still a pain.
-
Biggest problem with a Jubilee Clip is the ability to over tighten them.
This leads to damaging the rubber pipe, causing a weakness.
-
The leak path is very real. Due to the quite bulbous section on the inside diameter. There is no issue with that on the spring clips. Jubilees slip the thread, rust, seize and break. Plus they flat blade screw driver slot should be illegal on jubilees.
Almost all of the jubilees on my lpg kit have either leaked at some point, slipped or broke during installation. Poxy things, utter rubbish.
Found a clip made by Norma, size specific hence a completely flush inner face around the complete diameter, threaded clamp with the thread in contact around the whole circumference, instead of just down one side of a worm.
But equally awkward to gain access to as a spring clip.
...the Gm jubilees are quite good quality on the omega inlet, yet even they break and seize, going by members cars I see round here with alternatives fitted.
-
I remember doing some work on jubilee clips and leak paths at my very first job. They're quite poor, really. No wonder that some car companies don't use them.
You can get specialised jubilee clips that have an inner spreader that slides under the worm and these are indeed a bit better.
