i bought a new hard drive for my laptop last week and since then some of my keys are mixed up. for example, shift+' normally is @ but is mixed up with shift+2 witch is normally ". Do you understand what i mean. Its only the 'shift keys', i cant even find the pounds sign. :-/
What should i do?
Any thoughts?

You've selected the wrong country for the keyboard, probably US
Go to start/control panel/regional and language

it is on UK, i tried US aswell though but still the same :-/

Completely remove the US settings from the PC and re-boot.

there are 12 settings on there for english , you need to select english (united kingdom ) the wifes laptop was doing the same

go to keyboard on control panel and try troubleshooting

i think i have sussed it m8
go to control panel
then regional and language
in the tabbed section you should have languages
select languages and then under TEXT SERVICES AND INPUT LANGUAGES select details
then change default input language from english usa to english uk and apply and shoukld be problem solved ;)

Done, thank you so much, you dont know how much time you've saved me, i looked in there firstly but i didnt know what i was doing so i left it.
All works fine now
