Title: Omega B TD 2.5 6 inline doesnt run.
Post by: Iceviking on 26 March 2013, 19:40:36
Hello lads, im hoping I can get some ideas from you...

My father just got a Omega B, that is not running.

First we took the lift pump and cleaned it, and checked if we got the 12V too the pump. We dont.
We bypassed the electrics and hardwired it too the battery (for diagnosing purposes.) and we got
fuel running too the injection pump. We opened the lines at the injectors and we are geting a satisfying
amount of fuel pulsing at each injector.

first I thought it was the Immobilizer doing tricks but the owners and service manuals say that the immobilizer has a light
in the dashboard that should light up if that would be the problem.

The funny thing is that we get 12V too the fuel cut off solenoid, and the voltage drops to 9v during starting.
We dont get the 12V too the glow plugs, but we have the car inside, and the manual says that it will only fire the glow plugs if the temp outside is low.

I know these german engines have been a bitch too start up when the glow plugs arent working, but I think we should hear a difference in engine sound while starting if that was the case.

I've also considered timing, but since this is a chain engine it is almost impossible for it to jump teeth.

Every fuse i can find is fine, both visually checked and measured with a ohmmeter.

What we have yet to check are the relays since the diagram indicates that the fuel pump relay is also used in the glow plugs. (even tho it shows a bunch of diodes in the fuel pump relay and then another relay for the glow plugs themselves. Im not understanding this at the moment.)

any thoughts on this?

They dont like starting this weather with 1 or 2 GPs not working, so would say you will need all 6 working esp if the cars not been fired or stood up for a while.

Check GP relay in front NS fuse box next to battery.

It's very easy to get it to jump teeth if the engine has been turned backwards by even the slightest amount

I agree, get the Gloplugs working first, then go from there. :y

Getting 12v to the pump solinoid is a good sign the solinoid will stay open down to 5v.
I'd be doing the paper clip test to look for fault codes plus as others have said replace glowplugs :y

After some relay testing we found two that do not function.

one is GM 90 379 301, (which based from the diagram is the fuel pump/glow plug relay K16) does not click, it's a special relay with some Diodes for reverse polarity protection, that connects also too the glow plugs (im still not quite wrapping my head around how that's connected or why, but we will change these out and see what happens.

the other one we have no idea whats for, the GM part number for it is GM 90 565 948.

We cant get those here till after the weekend, but ill be sure too update this for future troubleshooting lads.
