Title: Would you consider one of these...
Post by: OmegaAnglesey on 28 March 2013, 02:03:01
The new Vauxhall RWD Estate...
http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/vauxhall-vxr8-tourer-announced

Personally I think it's not that good looking and being an estate you'd think they'd make different engines available even the insignia's 2.8T V6 would be small enough compared to a V8 ;D... And who in the current situation the way things are would pay that much for it honestly its hopeless  ;D but its different from the usual stuff on the market these days (new cars) .. I wonder how Vauxhall/GM will do with this monster of a car..

Didn't the Monaro when new cost around £30-£40k when new  ???

In short... Yep :y

Finally a replacement for the Omega estate and in V8 flavour too :y :y

It'll depreciate like hell so will be good value at 6 months plus ;)

 8) My only question is when?

Technically it has been available here since the facelift was launched, and an estate has been around since 2007 ::)

Don't be too sure about the depreciation though. Alot of the 2009 cars were sold for 23-25k, yet are still fetching mid to high teens. Even assuming their list price of £35k, that's only 50% depreciation over four years, compared to the 65-70% that the Omega suffered :-\

I won't be rushing out to buy the first one, but that has just bumped the XF estate from the top of the wish list ::)

Lets see which is cheapest nearer the time. Sportbrake or vxr8 tourer?

My money is on the vxr8. ...in black of course. :)

Sadly they won't import the better looking older model though. As it will have to be used. :(

a v8 would be very nice to drive but not a realistic daily car :-\

may be a weekend car only..

I wonder if they do a factory fit lpg system on the v8 ?

Now that would be a winner  :-*

Why? Economy figures on most modern V8's are actually better than the current Omega figures ;)

Shame it appears to come ready-chavved.  ::)

I think I could easily live with a manual LPG'ed V8 as a everyday car, though.

EDIT: Don't forget that we are in quite a cushy position regarding road tax with the Omega, though. These will be in the full-fat tax band that will, I'm sure, be subject to some serious hikes in future.

there is no way a 5 litre engine can consume less than a 3 or 2.5 litre engine.. ( if we exclude hemi)

air fuel ratio is fix.. and no one buys a v8 to drive in economy mode.. :y

Been for a blast in someone's 6.0 Supercharged Monaro. Driven normally its as economical as 3.2 V6, if not better ;)

Both RobseyMV6 and 2woody I'm sure would disagree, as both say they easily get 30mpg from their LSx powered Monaro and Holden...

A larger engine can be more economical if driven gently :)
Title: Re: Would you consider one of these...
Post by: 05omegav6 on 28 March 2013, 20:07:25
My 3.2, driven half sensibly, is currently knocking back unleaded at a rate of 20mpg :-X

A spirited test drive in a manual VXR8 will see about 17mpg, so nearly twice as economical given the cc difference  :y
Driven carefully, with a degree of anticipation, a running average of 25mpg is easily possible. And before you say 'where's the fun in that?', 1st is for getting moving, 2nd is for reaching the speed you require, 6th is for when you get to said speed. Anything else on busy roads is plain showing off ::)

The newer Holdens of that ilk do come with lpg. But not, I believe, with the touring. Sadly.

Cem, I thought you would have googled.

Get a better standard of fitting here, and better support if you use an euro sourced kit, although the Aussies, for all their faults, actually appreciate the benefits of lpg, unlike some politicians here ::)

I dont care about claims.. :)   if I stop myself I can also drop the miggy consumption down to 35 mpg..

but that wont be the everyday figure.. may be only a small gorup of us can drive like that continously ;D

You get to a speed, where even foot to the floor, it actually starts returning respectable economy, for a reason I don't really understand...

Sorry Cem, you're wrong. Easy to get better economy out of a bigger engine... That's why a V6 omega can easily be more economical than a 4 pot ::)

I quite fancied a late 2012 insignia vxr, from my local vauxhall dealer since they managed to mess up my zafira tourer order

The deal they offered me was almost to good to turn down... But the £815 for the first year car tax killed it for me, no matter how much I liked and frankly wanted it just couldn't justify as it meant another £500 odd quid on purchase price, strangely there was no room for negotiation on this  ;D :-X

Dark grey or white. The thing that really lets the GTS down is the king horrible wheels...

Easily sorted though with a set from either the Camaro or the previous VXR8  :y

Horrible wheels, one of the chavviest front ends and those terrible LEDs that you cannot switch off. Those horrible black bits in the bumper, yuck! It all reminds me of Vicky Pollard from Little Britain.

The previous model was so much more nicer.

I wouldn't buy that, just as I wouldn't buy a Focus RS or a Impreza WRX/STI or whatever its called.

Bumper is only clipped on, previous one fits straight on :y

Sadly the powers that be insist on daytime running lights to hide the motorbicyclists, so we're stuck with them. Try and buy a new car without. But as said fit the earlier bumper and some more thoughtfully located running lights ::)

I don't think that the VXR8 that we get in the UK is especially good looking.   :-\  As people have already said, too much Chavness really.

I prefer the Commodore SS-V which looks MUCH nicer  8) 8) :y - Not so boy racerish.

I guess it (SS-V) could be imported by Wilkinshaw..... However, probably not worth it now that Vaux have imported the GTS as the VXR8

here's hoping........ ;)

it just doesn't have the same appeal visually that the Omega has.. As many have said it does have a Chav/Boy racer look to it .. In other words its a wolf in wolfs clothing. But then again everyone has different likes and dislikes ..
