I started the first 'best oil' thread in five years the other day have a look here http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=113301.msg1428582#msg1428582 (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=113301.msg1428582#msg1428582)
In my opinion for your car and mileage the best oil would be the fully synthetic 10W60 Mobil 1 'extended life' http://www.mobil1.co.uk/synthetic-engine-oils/extended-life-10w-60.aspx (http://www.mobil1.co.uk/synthetic-engine-oils/extended-life-10w-60.aspx)
Best as in best you could put in, not best value. Much cheaper semi syns like the GM/Fuchs 10W40 might be perfectly fine.

I'd just use the Vauxhall semi syn and change it every 5k. My old Carlton Gsi has about 120k miles on it. If I run that on expensive fully synthetic it just drinks it yet I can use it on semi synthetic and rag it all day on a track day and it doesn't use any. Even my Lotus Carlton runs on semi synthetic but that does get changed every 3k miles.

What spec was the fully syn though, I'd expect that to affect the oil consumption much more than syn v semi syn. Fully syn is often thinner than semi. However the Mobil 1 fully syn extended life is a 10W60, 60 so less oil would be burnt at normal running temp. If you put 0W30 fully syn in I would expect it to get used up quickly.

20/50.

The general recommendation is to use GM Semi 10W40, and change once it starts to go dark, so probably 3-5k.
Its less than £50 for 4 x 5l cans from dealer if you have Tradeclub.

Fixed. Fuchs/silkolene. Oe oil. Anything else is aftermarket. ..."Pattern" so to speak. ;D ;)
Edit to add, and as said. On trade club, its a high quality oil at cheapo oil prices. ;)

+1.
20/50 semi synthetic is hard to come by but they do a good classic competition oil in that grade.
