Title: 51 plate Rover 25: Door seal not sealing...
Post by: Webby the Bear on 03 April 2013, 20:09:35
G'day gays, I mean guys  :D

My bro popped his Rover 25 round today to see if I could sort a leaking door seal. I took a look and launched some water over it and it's very clear as to where the seal is leaking; there's not a hole, it's just the door seal's adhesive has stopped working.

SO. I reckon the way forward is to buy the black sealant that is used for the Vx cam covers (part no. 90485251) and reseal it up. I thought of this as at the end of the day it's there to seal a rubber gasket against the head to stop oil seeping out so I'm thinking it should work. What say you?

If you think I'm being stoopid and talking out my rear end... what do you suggest instead :)

i should think a new door seal is needed or the door lock adjusted to bring the door in closer to the seal

Thanks Martin. I did think this but as I'm going to do the pass. side CC gasket on my miggy, I thought I could save him a few dollars.

Any idea how I could tighten the door lock?

TBH there's not an oil slick in the wells... it's just a little bit on the SP leads. You reckon it still needs doing?  :y

Have to say ran the Elite Estate for a long time with a leaking CC gasket.  Fortunately not leaking into plug wells, but sufficiently to smoke a bit when idling and leave oil on my drive.  But rarely needed topping up anfd then only a small quantity.  But was the pasenger side and laziness prevailed.

Did eventually fix it to appease SWIBOs incessant nagging. :y

That's the thing mate... not only do these ''little jobs'' mount up but as I said there's only a little bit on only 2 of the HT lead boots. I'll keep my eye on it for now I think. I don't get any smoking or over-usage of oil so it cant be that bad  :-\

I trust this in no way would affect fuel consumption?  :-\

If its not affecting HT performance, wouldn't have thought so.
