are you having trouble getting work. ive not worked for 2 weeks and not a lot since march, few odd jobs, jobs cancelled. but i get offers for work from people ive worked for for yrs but for half the money they paid before. theres more work out there now but everyone wants to pay crap. i used to get about 200-250 a day, very rare now getting that being a shopfitter/joiner. i had an offer today of 60 a day. frigging foreigners have destroyed my trade, and i have had to put a lot of there work right after.
anyone else in this position????

Most of the big housebuilders are mothballing sites and not starting any new developments, recession is not far away now. The days of big money are fast disappearing. We only sold 7 cars last week, last years average was 18 a week, its hurting everyone. More reasons to vote labour. NOT!!!

Alas, can't blame labour for (nearly) recession, but can blame them for wasting so much money in the fat years >:(

Absolutly right Richie,
Money has nose dived over the last year. Due to the vast influx of foreign workers as you rightly say. >:( >:( >:(
I'm on a fairly long contract at the moment - another 2 years we hope- so not so bad for me. but I've got mates who are sitting at home with no work. Anything that is offered their way is really p#ss poor money £75 -£80 a day for chippies. Poles love it though 3 or 4 times what theyr'e used to >:( >:( >:( >:(

In the last 10 years Labour have done naff all to help UK industry, allowing uncontrolled immigration, as the original point was made, has driven down wages and led to job losses and immense pressure on services. The current price of oil may not be down to the government but they seem happy to keep sticking VAT on top of the rises, foreign lorries use our roads free of charge, use cheaper derv from abroad, never buy any here and this is sending haulage firms to the wall and increasing the prices we pay in the shops for almost all our goods. Its the price of the Euro that bothers me though as I need to get some shortly!!!!!!!!!

As the Senior engineer at the place where I work, I am on half the dosh I was fixing Sky digiboxes. A large influx of "foreign Workers" there yes, but that's the way it goes in this "free for all country". You have got naff all security, no matter what you are doing, or how clever you are. The Government have killed off engineering, failing to recognise that it is the way people are attracted to buying British goods. They have been given many inventions, nice little earners on a plate, but have squandered them, only to have to buy back the technology later.
Hopefully the stupid house price rise will stop, which will ease house building for a while, so the migrant workers, will find no work, so will leave, and things will head back to what it was a few years ago, maybe!. I hope so.
I am spending what time I have retraining in other skills, so as to be attractive to an employer. So if this job dies, my CV looks good.
Look to the future, its the only certainty in this world. :y :y :y
Best of luck,
Cheers Ken
