Title: Decided to skim the head
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 12 May 2008, 18:41:25
Spoke to my friendly machine shop mate, he's going to skim the 2.0 head down for me - £30.

Seems reasonable!

I've asked him to skim it down quite a bit, so we'll see some interesting results!

How much clearance?

I took a head down 60 thou once but I measured before getting it done

It'll be interesting to see what effect the increase in compression ratios has

I've always gone for the safe option and had ally heads skimmed... It'd really ruin your day if you do all the work and then find the head is fractionally warped! ::)

My HG kit, incl all the steam seals and every possible gasket - £21.

Needless to say it's a pattern kit, BUT you can't be fussy over these things when at the end of the day, it was a £120 car!  ;)

Dont forget to bin the camcover, cam seal and exhaust manifold gaskets as they are total shite......

Dont go over board on the skim.....a few thou is more than enough.

As for skimming all alloy heads, V6 ones dont seem to warp and taking much off these causes alignment issues on the inlet manifold.

Where from? Get me one! - I was budgeting around £90!

Bolts are what, £20 odd too?

Includes all the bits the great one suggests?

Stock 8.8:1

Had it rebored - 7.8:1 supplied, made it up with a 60 thou skim.

Fitted a better cam & twin carbs

Visit 1 to RR - 70 up to 80

Fitted the correct pistons and with head skim around 11:1 visit 2 90bhp at wheels.
