Did any one drive a new/nearly new Granada for any distance?
How did it compare with a similar age/mileage Omega?
Purely from a driving view, so not really concerned with equipment comparisons, besides, I've owned four Mk2 Granadas and three Omegas, so after an independent opinion :y

I had a couple of V6 Granadas - nice cars in their time, easy to work on, high mileage not an issue. Only problem I had with mine apart from the usual consumables, was replacing inlet manifold gasket, (a known issue) which seemed to last around 40K only. An easy job though ;)
Not an easy comparison with the Omega imo, as the Grannys were a lot simpler in their construction and operation, no sensors as such etc etc.

Never had a new or even nearly new .. but a 60,000 mile one (when purchased ... a lot more when it went !! ) which was a dream... towed our early vans well, pulled nicely, petrol was cheaper then as well .. kids loved the space. Only changed it for the first omega (the 2.5) when it reached 17 years old and foreign breakdown insurance became too expensive ...
Genuinely loved that car and thought I'd never find a better tow-car ... then discovered V6 Omegas ... :)

Good cars (for their day) to drive - cruise all day at 100+ (2.8V6s), no "tramlining"/wandering at all ;) Took one of them down to Monaco, comfortable journey, cruised most of the way at around 100mph, except on some of the RNs.
Comparible in that respect to Omegas (never had wandering on any of ours) but obviously "higher" comfort levels/toys on the Omiga (as woud be expected in view of the time differences)

I,ve had one each of the last three Grannies (cept Scorpio) and loved them all, but, the Miggy is far better
to drive and with better road holding and is also far more sophisticated.

Aye my mk2 was a soggy sponge compared even to the Elite.

Just reread my post and it needs correcting ...and I'm out of time ... the Mk2 Granny was NOT replaced by the omega .. but by the Granada Scorpio (hatchback version) - photo from google images ....

No probs :y my four MK2s were wallowy 100+k barges, newest one was 12 when I bought it. Last one actually drove really well after new bushes and shocks, a 2.8i manual GhiaX with sports pack. 30+ mpg too 8) Only got rid after it ate its third gearbox...

I remember being well impressed by the ride in my Mk1 Granny, though it never really did handle properly. However, (don't want to sound like my grandad) I think the roads were genuinely better than the off-road 'roads' we have to put up with now. Don't know if I would go back to owning another . . .
Mind you, 3.1 with straight though pipes . . . 8)

I had 3 MK3's , two 2.9's and a 2.0 . My mate had the MK2 and never had any issues other than a bit of rust in its later days . He wanted it back as soon as he sold it ::)
