hi guys,
have finally got a date for the VIC test on the MV6. :)
VOSA should be named "TOSSA" IMO >:( >:(
On the paperwork & online forms it says you can ask for an out of hours appointment which includes Saturdays .
It costs £50 .00 instead of £41.00 so thought I would go for that to save having to have at least half a day off work :y
Politely asked VOSA for a Saturday date only to be told "There are no out of hours appointments at the moment".
I asked why , only to be told " there aren't any . . . anywhere "
OK I thinks don't want rub them up the wrong way :-\ :-\ the VOSA guy says first available date is 17th April ,
Ah! thinks I . . . great .. am at hospital that day 8.00 am for an CT scan , i can do both in the one day 8) 8)
Vosa says only appointment available on that day is . . .yep youv'e guessed it 8.00 am >:( >:( >:(
so settled for an afternoon appointment on the next day 18th :) :) at least it will be done .
So . . then asked him is the car a Cat. C or D .? Answer . . . we can't tell you that as we don't know .
He went on to say that when the new V5 is issued it will state in the "notes" that "this vehicle has been substantially damaged & repaired but has passed a VIC check on . . " . (whatever date it was tested .)
It seems cat, C & D are both " noted" with the same words.
My MV6 has really superfical damage ( a very small dent in the wing & a very minor ripple to the rear door . No paint damage at all . .that is how minor the damage is.
Yet it seems that it could still be a Cat. C not a D .
Just wondering who decides which cat. it goes in ? :-\ :-\ :-\
Getting fed up with the motor now . . . >:( >:( >:( >:( and even more fed up with TOSSA VOSA
Think I may have a look at Robseys 3.2 Elite 8) 8) 8)
Rant over . . . . regards, Al ::) ::) ::)

I believe that decision falls to the insurer based on the criteria with which they wrote it off :-\
One might repair dents below a certain size but decide overall repair cost too close to value and log a Cat D.
Another might insist on replacing panel regardless of dent size pushing repair cost over value and log a Cat B.
At least you're sorted :y

IF it passes . . . knowing my luck it's a Ri . . . . no not even going there :( :( :( :(

Straight back to the seller if it is...
Find out soon enough either way :y

confident it will be OK . collected it from his home with V5 at that address & nearly 2 years of ownership .
Should be OK :D :D :D

i thought cat D was stolen and recovered :y
-
Coincidence, nothing more. Stolen cars tend to be lightly damaged unless pranged/torched/stripped :y

where i'm reading Cat. C says extensively damaged . . insurer decided not to repair
Cat. D says insurer decided not to repair
Could someone put a link to a web page that explains each cat. please . So that we can all have a look :o :o
I'm U/S with a PC :-[ :-[. . . thanks
But if you want your guitar set up . . .I'm your man ;) ;) ;)

You read correct Al :y
The 50 shades of grey involved come from the insurers themselves :y
In Australia, for example if the airbags have been deployed then the car must be broken or exported, and can never be relicenced or registered in Australia :-\

This one is one of the more respected sites .. but even then, opinions differ .. :(

This one is supposed to be part of the ABI

They're fussy over there.
IIRC they've only just allowed LHD cars on the road there - hence the buttering of the dash of a 59 Caddy I saw somewhere on the web to convert it to RHD, along with the obvious steering.

Surely, as far as the vehicle is concerned, there's little difference between cat C and D. In both cases, it was repairable but more than the insurance co. would pay out for some reason (and it can simply be that the cost of a replacement vehicle would have made it uneconomical!).

The second link I posted is quite clear .... C - repairable costs more than the pre incident value (including VAT), D - repairable costs less than the pre incident value inc VAT but still written off ... so including the hire car cost in their total outlay would drop it into cat D

It's the "Extensively damaged" wording that will be put on the V5 that seems a bit unfair , As this car certainly is NOT extensively damaged .
But . . .as long as it passes the VIC check, all will be OK from my point of view. It did not cost much :) :)
Just a bit naughty of the seller to sell the car on without a mention of it being an uneconomical write off ! >:( >:( >:(

Similar situation to the car that started this debate off week or so ago, that I went to view,Al.
Looks like it has sold and reading Fleabay feedback the buyer is satisfied...obviously he hasnt troubled going to get the VIC test done yet as expect his headaches will also start there.
Your situation, given the amount you gave for the car, is different imho and being it is in good condition and I assume you intend retaining it for sometime the wording wouldn,t really be an issue but understand how you have been messed about by VOSA.
-
If you keep pics of the damage pre repair, it helps when moving the car on in the future. Cat C or D is a fine line but car D does not go on the log book in my experience so if you can't get a log book I would guess it is a C.

Feeling a bit better about it all today Amba :y
VIC is booked for next week . . so all being well should be able to start using it again . ;) ;) ;)
Oh ! Just gotta find the £££££'s to tax it :( :( :(
Oh! & a few more ££££££'s to fill it up ;D ;D ;D
Still keep thinking that Robseys black 3.2 Elite would be a good buy though :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Sure it will all sort itself out,Al. :y
At the end of the day should you keep the car it won,t really matter too much what the log book says....if you move it on as long as all the documents are in place at the sorts of money these Omegas now fetch I also don,t think it would get more than a comment at sale time as most people that would be buying a 10 + year old car would understand the cost of repairs against value anyway. It was just that Fleabay Elite had no documentation in place which got me wary about parting with over a grand, athough I am quite sure it would have also been less of a problem
Dependant on your usage and requirments that Black 3.3 Elite looks a decent buy, only downside in my situation is that 190k would soon be 290k. ;D
