G'day fellas.
Well, I got a track day for Christmas. And it was al booked for today.
The car was a Ferrari 430 and it was at the Kenilworth ''Prodrive'' track.....
http://www.trackdays.co.uk/tracks/kenilworth.htm
I'm struggling to put in to words what this car was like to drive. other than the speed was utterly intoxicating and addictive. the guy who was tutoring me was awesome. he got me to get the most out of the car mainly teaching me how to take the corners fast. but forget the corners..... that big straight when you plant your foot............... oh....my....god. i'm not a fast driver on the road but I went for it today. biggest smile on my face ever. only problem is I need a track. and I need the Ferrari.

Nice one :y :y :y
That Kenilworth track is fun to drive, enough straights to get some speed, but plenty of corners so you can actually "drive" the car rather than "aim" it .. :)
Drove the Aston Martin there .. pictures somewhere on the old site I believe .. :)

nice one mate. what was the acceleration like in the aston? I a.) stupidly forgot to look at the speedo and b.) stupidly forgot to ask what speed I got up to... although I took it as fast as the car would go with foot planted 8) any idea what the top speed you can get up to on the track bearing in mind it seemed quite small (im not used to track driving)
we got a high speed lap with a ''pro'' as well. went in a monaro and he was drifting :D :D :D I found myself asking him to go faster :o :o :o :o :o
my mam wants to do the aston. theyre gorgeous :y

Nice one Webby.. but after that every car you drive will be slow ;D

I never looked at the speedo once !!! Too busy enjoying the drive and trying to get the best out of it!! Instructor said I did well once I realised just how good the brakes were and how late (and hard) you could brake !! He said I hit 135 mph on the second to last run when I got it all together big time ... didn't stop smiling for a month .. :)

couldn't agree more!!! haha re the brakes.... by the second lap I wanted to test them... ended up standing on them.... but god they were good ;D ;D
did you get a score? he gave me 37 out of 40 whatever you read in to that ;D

A couple of pics of my stepson in the Lambo..... I didn't waste any time in telling him that I hated the look of it ;D (in fairness I think its more to do with it being a rag top..... the hard top looks a lot sexier :y

Got my mrs a track day for her birthday, she drove the Aston and Lamborghini. Loved it. She preferred the Aston though. Must try it myself one day

Nice one Webby, glad you enjoyed it. :y
I did the Ferrari track day last year. I was determined to have it flat out, which I did, but if I'm totally honest I was not as quick through the bends as I would have liked on the first couple of laps. By the time I had got used to the car and brakes I was doing quite well but by that time it was time to come in. :'(
Although you get up to around 140mph, that's not really the issue, as I have driven much faster in my other cars. It's a Ferrari, Aston or whatever, so it's an experience. :y
I still have mixed feelings about my track day. It's a lot of money for a short experience but still kind of fun. :y

Cheers mate :y
to be honest for me it wasn't about the corners or the speed I got up to. what I enjoyed the most was way in which it got to the top speed (that I got to)....when I floored it..... the noise. the acceleration. unbelievable ;D
theres loadsa different ways you can book it. my mrs paid £56 for me on Groupon and for that I got a ''demo'' lap to show us the track which was quite fast in itself..... then the 5 or 6 laps of me driving the Ferrari....... then 2 laps of the pro driving with me in the passenger seat in the VXR8 Monaro thingy .... he was farkin' mental :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
and then finally got an off road experience. that was....errr....shite :'( 2mph through some water. very crap. but it didn't matter I was still thinking about my Ferrari ;D ;D ;D
just one last word on the price......apparently if you go directly through Everyman Racing you can get it cheaper :y :y :y

Sounds a good price. :y My kids got me the Silverstone one and it cost nearly twice that for just three laps. :(

It does sound like a good price :y
Out if interest how much drive time did you get out of the 5-6 laps ?
Just to make you feel even better my misses got me a pen for Xmas :D :D :D
-
Sounds like a very good price! Would have only expected one lap for that money :)
-
;D ;D ;D
got to be honest I don't know how long I was out there. but I came in feeling i'd done enough as I didn't leave anything in the locker room - everytime he said ''half throttle out of the corner'' I floored it. he didn't stop me or moan ;)
like entwood says, it takes a couple of laps to realise how good the brakes are so to start with you come off too early....but rectify that quickly and feel your head beiong pulled off :D :D :D
we got there at 8 and eventually left at 10.30 but that flashed by cos all your thinking about is what you've just done with a huge smile on your face. so my point is its not like queing up to go in to a museum. ;)
and there was no real queing like I expected.... 10 mins to register. 5 mins to get the demo lap. 15 mins to get in to the car. 10 mins to get in to the pro lap. again gone slightly off track (no pun) but its a good day out and we found an awesome pub called the saxon mill after. :y

You are spot on Webby - it's intoxicating. I had a similar experience in an Astoon @ Bruntingthopre a few years ago. :y
Perhaps you can see now why I splashed out on my Lancaster ride. ;D
-
Brilliant, I think I have just found the misses her birthday pressie for next month :y
It would be rude not to accompany her though.. As she likes to do things as a couple ;D ;D

yeah it would be bad to not book yourself one too! ;D if I was to do it again i'd have the 458 Italia. but that is a bit extra.
plus also they offer excess waiver for like £15 (excess being £2k for damage). don't bother. unless the person driving decides to completely ignore the instructor you cant prang it as theres nowt to hit other than other cars..... but im so cool I just overtook them...literally 8) ;D ;D ;D

My Mrs had a track day at Bruntingthorpe in a TVR ... I know its not the most prestigious vehicle but shes always wanted to drive one, ever since we used to watch the "real" Tuscans at Castle Coombe....
She absolutely loved it :) and as the instructor said .. not everyone wants to hoon it around like an idiot .. she ENJOYED her day .. she might not have been up and down the box like I would have, she might "only" have got to a ton (but she has NEVER EVER driven a car that fast in her life)...
Whole purpose of a track day is to enjoy it and have great memories .. not to set records or be stupid :)
She keeps hinting at having another one .. but this time she wants the Aston ... I keep telling her .. she won't see out of it !!!
:) :)

Nice one steve, looked like a grend day out , now back to that misfire on the omega >:( ;D ;D ;D

Looks great, glad you enjoyed it :y
Someone really needs to teach Prodrive some Geography though.... It was known as RAF Honiley and sits between Honiley and Chadwick End, the latter being where my dad was brought up and can recount tales of collecting bits of planes where they had clipped the trees (Lot more woodland around the end of the runway then) on attempting to land. :o
Actually you would have probably passed the farm where i'm stockpilling Omega's on your way there :-[ ;D
