I have a problem with the wifes Rover. I went to a MG/Rover forum and e-mailed the moderators outlining the problem and asking for help. I stressed that I did not want to pull the 'usual' trick of joining just for an answer then leaving.. I was kindly e-mailed back with the instruction: Join the forum, PM a moderator and they will help you... :-\ ???
-
Well whats up with the rover then?? and silly you not asking here first :y :y
-
Errrmm! I did ask by PM, didn't put it out publicly cos. 'Its a Rover'... :-[
-
well put it in general car chat mate-look on there its all sorts of makes :y
-
The main reason I didn't put it on our forum in open discussion is the fact that the issue concerns gaining access to the inside of the car, and quite rightly on other forums similar issues will not be answered publicly... :(
-
Fair enough-makes sense :y hope you get it sorted mate :y :y
-
I suspect you would have got a very similar response from the mods here had you emailed them direct with a query about breaking into an Omega but didn't want to join the forum. ;)
-
if you in the aa they will open it for you

Yes. Notwithstanding I gave my address, telephone number, vehicle registration, user name on Omega forum etc. But 'hey'! I guess as we now live in a world of scam, lack of ideals, morals etc etc. EVERYONE has to be viewed with suspicion. Of course I suppose it would be impossible for a tea leaf to join a forum to gain information ??? :-X

Thanks for that r1. It all started when the battery went flat and couldn't open doors via remote. Tried the key in the lock, nothing. Tried the Omega trick of turning until key feels like its going to snap, it didn't, but the lock did. Key just turns round and round in the lock, so something in the mechanism has let go. Got my son to get in via the boot, but cannot open doors from inside. Turning the ignition key brings no lights up on dash etc, even after charging the battery for a day. There. The issue is reported... :-X

so if you can get in open the bonnet and try a new battery.

I think the Rover uses a rolling key code. Each time you operate the remote it generates a new code. If you put a new battery in the fob you have to do it quickly before it forgets where it is in the code sequence.
If it does forget it needs to go back to a dealer to be re-synchronised with the car.

Think the car battery went flat, not the key's? :-\

The problem might still be related.
The ECU also needs to keep track of the rolling codes for each key. I don't know if the ECU loses it's memory if the car battery goes flat :-\

My 25 had no such issues with having battery removed, or waiting 2 days for a fob battery (from memory, it had 2 cr2032, I thought it needed 1 ;D)

So, current situation is you are in the car, but it won't start?

Many thanks for interest shown and advice offered. Mods at MG/Rover forum have been in touch and I'll start working through the list tomorrow... Can't say anymore, been sworn to secrecy. :-X

not that secret-many know ;)

not that secret-many know ;)
I don't... tell me.

not that secret-many know so do I now..... ;) Have to say I was impressed, the 2 mods in contact with me were every bit as helpful as the members on here. Their forum looks good, almost a rival to ours. 'Almost'. As they have no Miggys... ;) I'm pleased to say that the Rover started first time, not bad after standing outside since early December. :y
