Having looked at the website I'm none the wiser. Can a techno nerd advise if this will A) Read both my '99 TD AND my 51 plate 3.2. and B) work on an iPhone4.
TIA :y :y :y
-
One of these will never work with an iPhone. You need a wifi reader not a Bluetooth one. Which are a LOT more expensive.

Why not? Doesn't the iphone have Bluetooth?

A) They say it won't work with X25XE or X30XE. Those are both pre OBD2. I wouldn't be surprised if they failed to mention that a 99TD is also pre OBD2 and won't work either. ::)
B) An Android app isn't going to install on an iphone. no ifs no buts.
-
Yes, the iPhone has BT, but it is not accessible by Apps in the same way as Android. According to Apple (quite rightly for most things) BlueTooth is old technology.
-
I have got a suitable reader (probably, I need to check which ELM version). I use Torque Lite (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torquefree&feature=related_apps#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEwOSwib3JnLnByb3dsLnRvcnF1ZWZyZWUiXQ..)
I will download ScanMy Opel & report back.

Thanks guys, shan't bother then. :y :y :y

Grab the free one before you go spending any of your hard earned Andy. My reader works with torque but won't connect with scan my opel.

Which is a basic excuse for them not getting it working correctly! ;D

Works fine. :y Only accesses the engine ECU though so don't know if the full version would access the gearbox :-\

What would I need to connect this to the motor then? I have the phone and can get the app, what else would be needed??

A Bluetooth ELM327 code reader gubbins. Sounds like the one Andy H has works, the cheap Chinese vgate device I have doesn't seem to connect but works with Torque.

Any suggestions as to where I would get one of these and a rough idea of cost?

Think mine was about five of the Queens English pounds from China via the bay of fleas but as I say Scan My Opel doesn't speak this particular dialect of Chinese OBD2 but Torque does.

Ta muchely!!

ScanMyOpel issued an update today.
It now connects to the autobox ECU (as well as the engine ECU).
It appears to be work in progress, the live data tab has headings for engine ECU values (with rubbish data on display). The other data screens look plausible so I will keep it on my phone & await further updates.
-
Can someone explain this to me... I am a complete retard with computers, phones and tech in general.
What do I need to use this?

And to add to the confusion SMO won't connect on my phone but works fine if I run it on my tablet. Weird.

Another update yesterday and a bugfix this morning.
SMO now lists engine, AT (automatic transmission) and ABS as being available.
AT is partially working, ABS doesn't connect at the moment. If the developer carries on adding features it should be really useful in a few weeks time...........
Live data for gearbox and ABS would allow mere mortals to diagnose dirty selector switches and faulty wheel sensors :y
-
SMO has just updated and woo hoo it now connects to my phone. Engine and Transmission are working but ABS fails to connect so it you have tried it and it failed may be worth giving it another go.

I tried it this morning after seeing that the changes included a fix for the failed connection problem with ABS and a fix to allow it to work with cheap Chinese ELM327 clones.
The ABS connection fix hasn't worked :( nice to know that the ELM327 comms timing fix has worked though :y
The other change I noticed was that the gearbox live data has meaningful headings and data now :y
-
Updates are coming through almost daily :)
The ABS section hasn't worked for me yet though :(
The website has this to say
Since in ELM 327 is used only pin 7, you may not get connected to other modules, which are connected to other pins in the OBD plug. In order to benefit all features of ScanMyOpel application, please connect together pins 7, 3 and 12 in the ELM327 adapter.
I am tempted to try linking the pins as suggested but I won't do it unless/until I can confirm what pins 3 & 12 connect to.
I have tried deciphering the Haynes wiring diagram, I know that I am looking for X13 but I cannot find it in the diagrams :-\
-
Just tried it today and guess what, no bloody different. :(
-

I assume you mean that it cannot communicate with the ABS module ?
If the ABS module is wired to a pin that the dongle doesn't connect to no amount of software updates are going to fix it. I wonder if TIS has wiring diagrams that are easier to read :-\

Looks good. Doesn't quite nail the question of which pin ABS is on in my 2003MY Omega though :-\
-
Same pin as any other Omega ;)
-
12?
Sure that's what the nameless one says when connecting to the ABS.
-

Sooo. Link 7 & 12. Linking two K Lines shouldn't be able to cause any harm.
If ABS is on pin 12 and ScanMyOpel is fit for purpose then I should get some live readings (assuming my ABS ECU hasn't started to fail ::))
-
It's not working with mine Andy. Linked 3,7&12 with kynar wires but still no connection to the ABS ECU.
-

:-\ Is that a form of wire-wrap?
-
It's just a bit of thin wire I had hanging about, think my lad used to use it to mod his xbox controllers. Soldered it in to link the pins on the back of the OBD plug then belled it out to check continuity so all three are connected but still no joy talking to the ABS.
-
Hmm.
If ABS is definitely not on pin 7 then I need to link the pins and report back I suppose (just in case my BT dongle has more success than yours)
I should check which firmware version I have as well.
-
Wiring diagrams show it to pin 12 on the diag socket (in addition to airbag, climate, servotronic).

Looking on Flea-bay for a bluetooth reader and there is loads of variety....

No 2 looks cheap but also like you'd be able to shut the fusebox cover and use when driving? Ready to buy one - just can't decide... ::)
/m.
-
First one looks a similar size to mine and you can just close the fuse cover with it plugged in.
A word of warning though don't leave it plugged in overnight or you'll come back to a flat battery. The supply is a permanent live so BT stays on and drains the car's battery. Guess how I know. :-[

Right then - that's the reader bought... :) I'll remember to unplug it... probably! ::)
SMO or Torque lite - or just download both I guess! ;)

Just bridging the different pins is liable to be unsuccessful, as you will likely wake up multiple ECUs who just talk over each other like project managers, with the same result (ie, FA ever gets done)
-
It works!
I linked pins 7 & 12 and it connects to the ABS module. The live data looks plausible but I have only checked that it can see the brake light switch so far.
-
This sounds like a real rubbish bit of junk ;D ;D ;D ;D
-

Huh?
-
Cough cough.........
I linked pins 3, 7 & 12 together and initially got access to the engine and gearbox ecus.
The developer has steadily added more features and I now have access to codes and live data in the engine, gearbox and ABS ecus.
What isn't working is access to the SRS (safety restraint / airbag) ecu. Does anyone know which pin the SRS ecu is connected to?
-
have a read of this http://theksmith.com/technology/hack-vehicle-bus-cheap-easy-part-1/ (http://theksmith.com/technology/hack-vehicle-bus-cheap-easy-part-1/) and especially part 2.
-

Pin 12.
Note that the reason they are not all connected to one pin might well be that the output of the tool, or each ECU, might only be able to drive a limited number of inputs. I'd try it with just pin 12 connected.

Thanks Kevin. If I had paid more attention to your previous post I would have had my answer ::)
Wiring diagrams show it to pin 12 on the diag socket (in addition to airbag, climate, servotronic).
I am able to communicate with the gearbox so I assume that means that I have comms on pin12 (though I suppose that the airbag ECU might have a weaker interface and be unable to drive multiple buses).
