Title: RIGHT SIDE XENON FAILED
Post by: VOYAGER on 22 April 2013, 10:20:02
Hello,
Last night, I have felt like the RH side (passenger side in Turkey) xenon was not illuminating.  :-\
For a better understanding, I checked again and saw the xenon was on for approx. 6 seconds and then turned off itself after a short flickering... After a few checks, I noticed that a light vibrationlike sound has come behind the headlight (seems from the black colored unit in which the cable goes at the rear section of the headlight) right before the lamp flickering prior to turn off itself... :(

As an additional info, no headlight failure warning in the board computer...  ???
Any idea if it is related with ballast, lamp failure or any other ghost, will be greatly appreciated... :y

Swap the bulbs around and see if that works ;)

Get the bulb out , if the little xenon ball is black , your light has gone.(Unfortunally)

Thanks for the ideas... :y
I will swap the bulbs first... ::)
Shouldn't it be the ballast problem, because of the clicking or vibrating sound coming from the back side of the headlight?
Or, that clicking sound is normal at the time of the bulb dies... :'(

They go pink then eventually the bulb gives out :'(

The noise could be the remains of the bulb sparking :-\ was the case with mine :y

Oh, thanks Al...
I feel better now.  :D
What if I change the bulbs to the higher brightness from the original 4300K? Can the ballasts live with the brighter bulbs?  :-\

The colour temp is not brightness, but the colour,

4300 - yellow
5000 - yellow / white, or daylight
6000 - blueish white
8000 - purpleish

the lower numbers give better illumitation, not the other way around.

My advice is to not go above colour temp 5000K ;)

Voyager, from what I understand you may also have another problem..

I suspect original xenon kit bulbs or ballast will be way too overpriced from service..

so if you ask my opinion have a visit to the electrician (Serdar) , he has new kits that will be way cheaper than parts alone (from service).. and those kits dont give any error codes on MID.. :y

If its just the bulb gone, you can get rerplacements fairly cheaply off ebay - but go for Phillips D2S bulbs, not chinese cheap ones!  When I got mine, I got a pair of Phillips made in Hungary - and no problems :y

Dbug, the prices for bulbs or ballasts here in services are extremely silly and you can nearly get a whole kit  :-\

Understand cem - thats why I suggested ebay and hinted Hungarian bulbs ;)

And if the ballast is an issue then genuine are very reliable so second hand is a valid option (think I have a pair here)

Thanks for all replies buddies... :y
On Wednesday, I went down to the Service and had both bulbs replaced with Osram 5000K.  :)
And...
I discovered the night life again... :o
Because, by that Wednesday night, I had thought that I had seen something while driving with the low beams!!!... ???
(By saying night life; don't think about the beer at the pub... ;D Of course, I'm talking about just driving  :D at night... :D ;))
