Title: MOT Failed - Advice ??
Post by: John-R on 22 April 2013, 16:26:14
MOT today - Failed  :'( :'(

On the plus side it was only tyres and suspension

Tyres: 1 worn too far the other wrong profile ??? Put spare on last week and that was a /50 profile the others are /55.
Still easily solved.

Suspension: Quote from certificate - "Nearside front suspension arm bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.2). Need to get back on the road, but on a budget so was thinking of just replacing the worn bush with a view to replacing the lot sometime in the future. Question is - I think there are 3 bushes on the arm are they the same? or how do I find the correct bush ?

Cheers
John

Bushes on the wishbone can be replaced individually however unless fitting a polybush set you would need a press to fit, unless its the lower ball joint which you can just drill out the rivets and replace with new bolt through unit.

By the time you have taken the wishbone off to do the work you might as well just fit another using what ever bush/type method you prefer/afford,although if 1 side is worn the other will be close behind and good practice is to replace in pairs.

Once they are renewed or rebushed you need to get the wheels re-alighned as they will destroy any tyres pretty quickly

 ....

because it's only a 15" steel rim ..... I'm guessing the wheels fitted to your car are 16" - hence the difference in profile  ;) ;)
