Title: Estate Rear Adjustable Tie-Bars
Post by: P6UL K on 28 April 2013, 23:09:24
Is that what they are called?

I can't seem to find them anywhere?  Mine are seized solid, i'd like to get another pair so i can strip them down and copperslip them up so they are nice to adjust for the up & coming 4 wheel alignment....

Just needed to 'up' this thread - Does anyone online have one of these to hand?

I need the measurement of one of these tie-bars from end to end...

Cheers  :y

Just had an attempt at measuring one on the car, without jacking the car up. ::) ;D..............Seems to be pretty close to 575mm long, but then again, they are adjustable,so........ ???
If you want to source a pair which aren't seized solid Paul ? I can have a go at taking a pair off a car at the weekend,if its dry.
If you want brand spankers, then Allgerman as in Robs link is probably the way to go. :y

Dead easy to remove, balljoint splitter makes it easier though :y

I have one of those. :) I thought I had finished stripping the breaker yesterday when I ceremoniously lowered my trolley jack, but I can always jack it up again. ;D

Had one from Halfrauds (crappy Laser) not the "fork" but the proper splitter. Tried to split the joints on my breaker, done two then the splitter bolt just bent and the body started to chew up. Straight in the bin and bought this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230920766493?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I originally bought the fork type, but they just rip the dust covers to shreds ime,so bought a proper one - from machine mart iirc.

Thanks Alb, is that measurement from the centre of the track rod end to the rod end (where the bolt goes through)?

I'm looking at other options mate  ;)

No mate, you asked for end to end so that's what I measured. :D ;D
I can do it again over the weekend,if you remind me.They are adjustable though,so precise length shouldn't be critical. :-\

For what it's worth, I have measured two I have saved from dead cars, saloons admittedly, and the length  between screw centres was 1' 9.3/8", which I convert to 543mm. The lengths of course are adjustable +/- 1". My MOT tester likes to find slight play in the ball joint, putting it down as an advisory note; he has never failed one yet. They can be freed off with use of heat. I suppose if I want my geometry reset I would need to submit a fully adjustable car, which means adjustable rear track rods.

That's very true Terry, some MOT testers aren't as forgiving! I just need to find out the size of the bolt hole in the rose jointed rod end  :-\
