Title: Rattling door pins (facelift)
Post by: Steve B on 02 May 2013, 18:08:23
Remove door card,And unscrew door pin from rod.

Shake it and you can hear it rattle,This is because the orange inner piece is loose inside the housing.

Using a small screwdriver carefully open the hinged flap.

Look inside and you can see a small space on each side of the orange inner piece,That the door rod screws

into.

Using a small screw driver, Force as much as you can BLU-TACK down both sides of the orange inner piece.

It all sounds very crude but it works well.  :y

To remove the pin you simply prize the orange lock tab out of the pin. It then just lifts off. No need to remove door card ::) then simply wrap a couple or three turns of insulation tape around the base of the pin to stop it rattling :y and refit :y

Cannot honestly see how packing the pin full of blutac will prevent it rattling :-\

Got one of those on the passenger side, sends me round the bend on a long journey, asked my daughter to stick a bit of cardboard in to stop it rattling, she shoved it between the door fame near the widow and and the door trim, guess what it stopped the trim vibrating and the button rattling.

At the time door card was already off.And as said its the orange thing rattling inside its housing(in my case)

And above sorted mine out.(silence)  :y Cannot see how insulation tape around the housing could stop orange inner piece rattling. :-\

Never yet seen one where its the orange insert that rattles. Its always been the pin rattling in the door card guide. Usually locking (or unlocking) reduces the rattle.  The best solution is to hook off the doorcard, and bend the rod to point nearer the glass slightly.

Glueing the plastic strip back on the doorcard then refitting seems to have cured two of ours.

Which strip?

I tried glueing the pin surround to doorcard, which I think helped a little. Be aware that the clip that holds the door pin surround to the doorcard is £22 :o :o :o

The hard plastic strip that sits in the metal clips on the top of the door. Often starts to seperate from the doorcard when it's been removed from the door once or twice. If you can press the top of the doorcard inwards by the door pin and the rattling stops then that's usually the cause.

Ah, yes, correct.  I always re-stick them at the first sign of coming unstuck :y

Did one card a couple of days ago... No more pin rattles and the door card is attached again.

I havent had the time to take the door card off as yet, working 7 days a week, and would need time for the glue to set.
I did try taking the orange clip out and wrapping three turns of insulating tape around the bottom of the button, this thankfully silenced the noise, but as stated, its the top of the door trim being loose and vibrating that causes the problem, and this still need attended to.
