Got the reminder this am for the V6 road tax, now £280.00 for 12 months or £154.00 for 6 months, I don't recall any mention of this increase in the budget & I know it's only a £10.00 increase, but does anybody really think we are getting value for money? Our roads have now got to be amongst the worst in europe

Yep. Mine came through today........£280. :'(

I was doubly lucky today. ;D
Just got home to find SWMBO's car's road tax reminder - gone up from £90 last year to £105 & my Merc's. The reminder says it's 'only' £475 but per the posts the other day, I know it to have gone up to £490 ....... and they both need MOTing this month too! :'( :'( :'( :'(

No. Roads are full of potholes here in Spain too, even the Motorway near where I live. You have to have your wits about you all the time. I was quite shocked at how bad they were in the Scarborough area on my recent visit. UK road tax has never all been spent on roads to my knowledge but used to fill the Treasury coffers. In other words a major source of tax.

they spend it on foreign aid to country's that don't need it wich would be better spent in our own country >:( >:( >:(

Yeah makes my blood boil.

I sent a report in for the roads around here to the council pot hole menders , needless to say nothing has been done >:( >:( >:( im not kidding when i say every road is littered with pot holes and road surfaces all worn through >:( >:( Another letter to the MP me thinks :(

The reason for road tax continuing to rise is the cost to maintain the roads if not remains the same as previous years, increases
As all most newer cars more economical have road tax as low as nothing in some cases and the new VX diesels around £30 a year who do you think foots the bill to fill the void
Yep it's us, more cars on the road less road fund licence coming into the pot, what to do.. Penalise the motorists with older, bigger vehicles :-X

Just taxed the Jag - £280, and now have the reminder for the Omega, also £280. Still at least the others are foc ;)

ive got to admit i dont pay car tax and i haven't for the last 4 yrs but i still say its daylight robbery what people have to pay with no sign of improvement in the roads because thats what it was originally brought in for

No, that's what they said it was for!
Road fund licence or whatever you call it has NEVER been put aside to pay for roads, as government 'accounting' doesn't work like that. They tax the money, and spend it wherever it is needed today.
RFL was just another money grab back in the thirties when some bright spark noticed that a lot more people were driving cars for free!

My grandson has just passed his test so his mum & dad got him a peugeot 107. Nil road tax, these climate change
incentives are costing the rest of us a fortune. >:(

Subsidising cyclists who also use the roads free of charge!! :)

I remember reading that one full size truck does as much damage to a motorway as 100,000 cars do, i.e. the cars damage it next to nothing. Do trucks pay 100,000 times a car's road tax?
What's wrong with sending stuff by rail?
Don't get me started on aeroplanes they pay no tax on their fuel at all and due to their height they emit their fumes at, it is 3 times as damaging to the climate. Even trains pay tax on fuel.

No wonder the roads are in a mess , then try and claim any compensation for damage to your car as i did and you have no chance >:( >:(
