My offside side light bulb has blown/stopped working and so has the left hand side of the instrument panel both at the same time. The temp gauge and part of the tachometer is now in darkness. I hope they are linked because I dont fancy taking the dash out!
-
Coincidence mate ;)
Takes 10 minutes to get dash out, replace bulbs and refit - there's a howto in the Maintenance Section :y
-
Thanks for replying. I was afraid you'd say that. Looked at the maintenance guide, looks fairly straight forward but I don't like doing stuff like this because I usually end up breaking something.
What type of bulbs do I need and can I get them from halfrauds? VX will probably be cheaper but the nearest is 5 miles away

5 min job to get the dash out ;)
-
Thanks chaps. Rob, I have no idea which bulb is faulty so how do I proceed? Shall I ring andyc and buy all the dash bulbs? ;D
-
Likely to be one of the 2.2W ones if its only Tacho side thats out ;)
-
Thanks. I watched the video in the maintenance guide and it looks like the centre vents just pull out rather than having to unclip anything with the butter knifes. Can someone confirm?
-
Vents need to be removed to reveal the fixing screws
-
I understand that Rob, was asking if the knives slide in and pull vents out or if something needs unclipping behind vents before they will come out
-
Point the vents up, then pop them out from the pivot point :y
They practically fall out :y
But first give the cluster a tap, the bulbs might not need replacing. This is certainly the case with mine, perhaps once a month the left hand end doesn't light up. A tap sorts it every time :y
-
Thanks.
That must be annoying, if you have to remove the dash everytime you do this. Wouldn't it be easier to change the bulbs?
-
There's enough room around the steering wheel to give the face of it a light tap with a knuckle between the temp gauge rev counter. ::)
Had I actually removed it, then I would have changed the bulbs...
-
I thought that but thought it sounded silly tapping on the glass. ;D
Trying to work out what I need
501 (5w) for the sidelight
501 (2w or 2.2w) for the dash x 4?
Is that right?
Also, is it illegal to drive with sidelight out?

This did the trick, cheers al. Just the sidelight to sort...I wonder if tapping it would work ;D :y
-
It might ;D

Same here, Noticed it was dark (petrol gauge side) out of frustration tapped it lightly ::) hay presto the bulb came back to life. ;D

Becareful tapping the headlight /changing the sidelight bulb you dont want to break the adjusters ::)
