Title: Your HONEST Opinion
Post by: STMO123 on 09 November 2006, 20:22:53
I'd appreciate your honest appraisal on this please. I run a 2000 W 2.5 CDX, 90000 mls, in good nick, cambelt done, MOT and Tax MARCH 2007.

I've used this dealer before and he's a genuine guy.

Now, I obviously cant afford to run two omegas, but, if this one doesn't reach its reserve, I was thinking of offering him mine+cash. Trouble is. I really dont know how much cash, and whereas I KNOW mines had all its bits done, I obviously dont know about the elite.

HELP! please.

Looks like a nice tidy motor.  Well loved from new - as evidenced by the small things such as the cargo net in the boot.

Shame only 1 day to go - would have suggested Email garage and ask for details for your own HPI - inc name & address of last keeper to call up and ask if any problems.

Worth a gamble? I've seen worse.

My knowledge stops with cargo nets - didn't feel qualified to comment on important things such as engines.

I don't think they would have posted so many pics if it was a wrong un - just need to decide on your best price.  If it goes over your set limit - let it go. If not grab a bargain. [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]

If it reaches its reserve, I've lost it anyway.

bear in mind that although the "timing belt change" has supposedly been done, at that mileage you'd be best off changing it (and the tensioners) and waterpump to be safe!

It's also currently up on autotrader for £3,895

To add to the above comments....

Why is the radio showing 87.5mhz? This suggests battery has been reconnected recently...

6 years old, 90k... in need of a new exhaust system then £250 for centre sections and back box.

What happened to that engine bay? Doesn't look like anyone has been near it recently.

Personally, I would not pay the money it is at. It is worth over 3k, if it looks the part... which this does not.

I thought Omega radios remembered stations after battery disconnection?

Though agreed with rest of your other comments...

They do, maybe the battery was off for some time?

Why do you say it is in need of a new exhaust Dave?

Personally, I would not worry so much about the engine bay - I don't believe in washing this area or keeping it spotless.  As AA says, at least it has not been pressure washed.  That being said, I would expect to see the bonet slam panel clean if it was a cherished car - in this example it is just a grubby as the rest of the bay.

Other than that it does not look bad, but shame that the pics are not better quality.  Agree with the Timing Belt change being required.  Ad does not mention anything about tyres etc.

To add to the remarks about the radio remembering the stations, this is indeed correct - my battery was off for over three weeks and the stations were still recalled.  Strange.

Also, why is the climate on high?  Is this because the lower settings are not providing enough heat?

Just my thoughts and 2p worth.

At 6 years old, the original exhaust will be at the end of its natural life.
The genuine Vx exhaust is excellent, but it has a finite lifespan, and since there is no mention of this being changed I would expect it to be on the original. :)

Climate on high and on windscreen - may be to clear the damp.
