Just had someone message me regarding a car I've got for sale, and said, it says it could be stolen. Anyway done a check myself, now this is the confusing part, it says: No stolen record, then continues to say, may have been stolen but as it's been involved in a plate transfer further investigation is required, any ideas? Now I know it was clear when I bought it, and I've still got the check I done?

Did it actually have a plate change in its life?
Yeah, but years ago, in 2004 I think.

HPI is better, for history checks but costs, also your insure's would tell you if it had been stolen/recovered if was recorded.
-
I thought the auction companies did HPI checks? Assuming you bought it at auction of course. ::)

Yeah I always use HPI, this was just to see if what the buyer was telling me, was truthful and it was.

Nope, I swapped it for a Golf.

I think I would be tempted to do a full hpi check Del,just to be sure all is good :y

Had this email back:
Good afternoon,
Thanks for your email.
I had a look on the system at vehicle S4ABG, Bmw 330i Sport Auto, and can
confirm this vehicle is NOT currently stolen. There is no adverse history
showing on the vehicle. The only thing highlighted is the fact the vehicle
had a private plate on it:-
The plate history is as follows:-
Registration On Off
**** *** 1 Dec 2004
S4ABG 1 Dec 2004
So one of the owners have registered a private plate to the vehicle. You
would not need to worry about this as the system does check through all
the plates on the vehicle as well as the VIN/chassis. This is always the
same even if the plates change from time to time.
Kind regards,
Customer Care
So I've emailed back requesting they change the wording, as I don't see that very good. It's put a buyer off already. Also I should point out, I done another check on another vehicle I've got with a private plate, and that doesn't say the same thing.
