Dear all,
I hope someone can help.
I have a 2001 Facelift 3.2 Omega.Mileage 80K.
When I start the car usually from cold, the car starts fine ,runs for 10 seconds then stops.
Spanner flashes.
If i turn off then start again engine starts.
Info screen defaults to German as well.
It occasionally does this when warm.
I also have engine light on and codes suggest the precat issue.
Have checked codes and i have
1613
1612
0430
0420
1700.
Its never ticked over smoothly even though all breathers clean, throttle body cleaned, plugs etc are good.
Its had a crank sensor fitted last year.
All fluids are good and no leaks.
I wondered if anyone had a simliar problem and if it could be an ECU issue?
I have checked chip is secure in key and replaced battery in fob.
Or is it all a coincidence and crank sensor is playing up.
Help!! thanks

Was the crank sensor replaced with a genuine one?
If not, it might be prudent to do that first and report back :y

Mine has never idled smoothly either, it seems to be an issue on dbw cars..

dbw or not, omegas have many components that can prevent idle to be smooth and perfect..
so you have a long checklist :-\

For the idle problem
Can of brake cleaner and a tooth brush for the throttle body and check for split breather pipes
Swap crank sensor for a genuine VX one if not fitted

No DBW V6 ones are, they are all a bit shit!

I have the start/stop problem on mine since I got it last yr. Basically the car decides to not recognise the key sometimes, thats what 1612/1613 codes are. If it does this remove the key from ignition completely and wait for a few seconds before re-starting. Not sure how to sort the problem entirely but this will keep you moving and I'm sure someone else will be able to advise how to fix properly.

A lot of the idle vibration is down to the exhaust ;)

Flashing spanner implies immobiliser...

when first starting, put the key in and turn to red lights. Then wait a few seconds till you start it. That did the trick for me

Hello All
Thanks for all your replies.
Appologies for the delay in getting back to you all.
Crank sensor was replaced with gen vx one last year.
Just done 450 miles and it never missed a beat.
Throttle body was cleaned and made no difference to tick over.
Also giving the car a good blast cured the lamda issue.
Ive tried waiting a few seconds before starting engine and so far no problems.
I wondered if it could have been a mix of a slightly tired battery after first start ,voltage dropping and causing a voltage drop in system....thus the change of language issue and why my german has improved trying to find the english lang setting.
I will advise how the beast performs starting wise.
Thanks again to all much appreciated
