Title: Buzzing type sound in the dash/centre console area.
Post by: Mr.OmegaMan on 21 May 2013, 18:40:35
As title really not much to add. Only really buzzing over 35/40mph when under acceleration usually just gentle not going fast. Just seems to come and go but its a little annoying..

Yup, good point.

My self levelling relays on all 3 of the Elites I've had have been binned pretty early on ;D

There are a few black ones  ::) ;D

Just had a quick look they all seem secure and no heat/burning smell will have to check again after a run to be sure i suppose.

Pull the bastard for a day or 2. Its one of the small ones. If your full beam no longer work, you've pulled the wrong one.

I probably should have added its running on standard shocks and springs.

Might be one of the actuators in the climate system :-\

Ignition off, press any button on the climate panel (except the rear screen one), and you should hear a noise :y

Might also be a wire drumming somewhere if the radio has been out...

Will give that a try, I did reset the climate control by pressing off/auto did that fine few days back.

So you want to play around with the climate control and see if it makes that buzzing sound, i'll try give it a go today but its so windy today it's doubtful i'll hear anything  :-\

After another run after trying everything above there is still a buzzing/rattle type sound over 40mph or over rough road surface usually..

Have tried ruling other things out like cdc magazine, ashtray, air vents, auto gear leaver, glove box, fuse box door etc. Although there is a little play in the fuse box door but doubt its that some how it sounds more like its coming from the radio area  :-\ Have even tried it with and without CDs in the slot and cdc changer..

Is there a how to guide on removing a NCDC unit might have a look behind there then shake the unit once its out  ;D

Been checking google on this subject on verious cars and I keep getting the same results pretty much "climate control fan" not saying its going to be the case with the Omega but isn't a climate control system pretty much the same idea on all cars ?..

Anyway I'm not sure if this will rule this fan thing out or not but it does make this buzzing/rattling/humming type sound when everything's off while driving above 40ish mph not constant every few seconds say.

I'm sure I can live with it especially as its only faintly noticeable "but its there nevertheless" but just turn the radio on higher and keep the engine revs high enough to drown out the noise if its one of these phantom noises which can't easily be traced.

Would like to try and get the radio out to see if there's anything behind there that could cause this but I've only got the tool that can remove the radio from my GLS radio which doesn't fit the NCDC series radio so i'll have to use thin screwdrivers or something unless somewhere sell these for this radio ?

Oh Joy there's always something with Omega's  ::)
Then again that could be said about most cars  ;D

Turn the climate OFF completely. Does it go?

Turn the NCDC OFF. Does it go?

It's okay 70 upwards and most speeds on smooth surface roads. It's worse under accelaraition and rough surface roads  :-\

That's it i'm not going to be stripping everything out to find this buzzing noise whatever it is, I'll just have to live with it or sell it which seems a tad daft to sell just because of this little noise now and again.

This is probably unrelated but the main beam blue dash light doesn't work any more  :-\ probably the bulb, Just encase is these a fuse for the bulbs in the dash ?

Pop the pollen filter out and liberally apply some 3-in-One oil to the spindle of the heater fan. That's it, job done :y

I'm not sure if that's the problem but no harm in giving that a go also, When driving along when the buzzing starts I put some pressur with my hands on the 2 air vents above the radio and the buzzing stopped.

Swapped the air vents from the 2.2 to the 3.2 and there is a noise present when shaking them but the ones on the 2.2 are silent.. Will have a run later on and see if this cures the problem  :y

Aye it's odd but its high mileage maybe just ware and tare  :-\, Nothing broken just a slight lose sound but they probably have been removed before engine management bulb isn't lighting up 9along with main beam bulb) they could have just fused but doubt it, pedal codes came up with CAT codes... Will update later on if this air vent swap cures the noise  :y

It's taken me over a year to pinpoint one of the other noises in the dash area, Turns out it's the metal case holder thingy that the 4 stack CD cartridge slots into, Trouble is I'm at a loss as to how to shut it up, It's definaty this as putting your finger on it applying pressure the sound goes away also you can feel the vibrations, Some road surfaces worse than others.

Seen as the 4 stack CD changer doesn't work anyway couldn't I just stuff something inside there to quieten the ratteling/buzzing without any problems such as going on fire etc..?
