For the first time in my life i wanted to harm a woman tonight. Iwas driving along the A6 very busy road when a small boy ran out from in between a row of parked cars on my nearside, to reach his mum on the opposite side of the road He stumbled and fell right in front of me . Imissed him more by luck than skill and stopped to see if he was alright (having an Omega stop 2 inches off your head cant be fun for any one let alone a child)Then the Mother started to rant and rave that i was speeding and driving like a Pratt even though i had my kids in the car . the Police arrived , it was terrible
The traffic lad told her to grow up, thank me for having quick reflexes and expect a visit from social services for neglect .
I went through so many emotions in a few seconds and all the time this stupid woman is shouting abuse at me and my children
sorry for going on a bit , feel better now :)

I almost decked our patio last summer but couldn't be bothered in the end. :y

i should hope not you bully :D :D :D

Dead easy .. she'd rather blame YOU than take the responsibility ..
The accident was (nearly) caused by her failing to look after her child .. why is she one side of the road and her child the other, unsupervised ??
In this day and age it's always "someone else's fault" ... folks just will NOT accept responsibility for making a mistake ... so she blames you.
At least the Law recognised this... could have been very different for you ..
Hope you are OK .. these things have a tendency to "play on the mind" ... lots of "what if" ideas circulate .... just remember .. and keep telling yourself that you did the right thing.
Take care

If you'd done an advanced driving course, you'd have been busy looking in the mirror when the kid ran out :(
Sorry you are shaken up, but well done for reacting in time. Loose kids and loose dogs running around scare the living daylights out of me.

I know the feeling, kid went right accross a junction on his bike as I was turning, he was facing to the rear talking to his mate who had a look of horror on his face. I had allready stopped but blasted the horn as he passed the middle of my car still looking at his mate.
The horn scared the shit out of him, his mate turned round and said to him if you say one word and the driver doesnt deck you then I will. Adding that he didnt want to lose his best mate.
I now believe the lad wont ever cross the road with out looking for the rest of his life.
But I hope that mother gets a severe ticking off for neglecting the life of her kids and further more not seeing that you actually saved her childs life as she didnt seem bothered about them.
The BITCH

my kids are really upset about what happened , my youngest is curious as to what some of the names mean the woman called me though . It didn't seem to bother her at all her son was still screaming the road down while holding on to me in a death grip that i couldn't loosen
-
:o `Just glad all concerned were (at least physically) unhurt.....
`well done Zippo for avoiding what could easily have been a very different outcome. :y
As for the ranting mother?....What`s that old saying: "It`s easy to have kids; much more difficult to be a good-parent!" ::)

That tells a story .. the child KNOWS it'll get more comfort/support from a total stranger than from its own mother .... :(
Sad, very very sad indeed. :'(

I agree, the women was more concerned about giving you an ear bashing than she was about her son, very sad indeed. :(

i hadnt even thought of it that way. I remember now she was pushing a buggy type pram and had 2-3 more little ones around her

Pleased you are ok and that you avoided an actual accident, I know how it can shake you up. I recently missed a child, about 5 who was with his Mum but ran across the road, I was well within the 30 limit as school time and lots of little kids around. I took appropriate action as he passed the front of the car, problem was that he stopped to turn back, considerable extra breaking was needed, came to a halt, kid in the road was fine but his face was a picture, it was his mother I asked if she was allright! they both learned a lesson that day.
My pet hate / fear is to see a football come out on to the road, gives you a scare even if not followed by a child.

I would have to disagree with that statement.

My total sympathy. You know what, she was yelling so loud and foul at you because she KNEW she was in the wrong but is one of those that won't admit they were in the wrong-ie guilt! Some of these so called mums make me ashamed to be a woman. Don't some kids have 'em?!
All the best, Dee
-
same old story people wont admit there in the wrong. in the mean time the innocent usually take the blame for it. good driving zippo and dont let the tinkers drive you down. the truth always shines through in the end, well usually.

now ive calmed down a bit and had time to think perhaps social services might not be the best way to deal with the Mum . The kids didn't look neglected or anything like that ,she was probably scared witless . Or am i being a wuss

Social Services would not be interested.

See it so often, same as road rage, they break up, its your fault >:(

Regardless of the situation, which I think she's completely at fault, your reactions were thankfully spot on!! :y :y :y
Perhaps it will encourage both parent and child to take a little more care, but I doubt it will affect the mother anywhere near as much as it has shaken you. Glad you're all OK.
