Anyone ever used the Dyson repair service?
http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/arrangeservice.aspx
"Your Dyson vacuum cleaner should provide you with many years of excellent performance and satisfaction, however you may wish to treat your machine to a routine service if it is out of guarantee.
Our fixed charge vacuum cleaner service of £79.00 (inc VAT) is fully inclusive of spare parts and labour (excluding accessories and filters). If your vacuum cleaner is in guarantee and you require a repair rather than a service, please call 0800 954 0154 so that we can help.
When you book a service you can expect:
A full inspection of your machine by a Dyson Service Engineer.
All required parts replaced as per the service engineer's inspection (parts and labour guaranteed for 12 months or until service support ends for your machine, whichever is soonest).
A full electrical and safety test.
Leave the site as they found it and dispose of any parts replaced during the service.
Easy payment direct to the Dyson Service Engineer by debit/credit card, cash or cheque.
Any accessories and filters are chargeable and may be purchased online or from the Dyson Service Engineer."
Now, my ageing DC07 works, and works well, I service it and keep it cleaned out.
BUT it is showing its age, and wants a new canister lid, cable tidy, hose, and probably a few other minor bits.
I could buy and fit the parts myself, but would cost more.
Question is, would the service cover all these in with the price?
Not interested in replacing the machine, It suits my needs and requirements which many others on sale do not.
(Must be bagless, Must not suck all dirt through the tools at all times, only when required, Must have an automatic brushbar)
Love or Hate dyson is a separate debate.

Iirc the one off fee covers all, except the attachment tools. But its been a few years now.
They quite happily discuss it by phone. :y
-
If not there are quite a few on the bay very cheap complete working Dyson same model :)
-
Dyson Service does what it says on the tin. Just like the products, spot-on! (except maybe the Washing Machine) ;D
-
Cheers.. May give em a bell to discuss.
flip side is £79 is a long way towards a whole new one.

Plus parts Jimbob, if you need a new lid and other bits, these will not be included in the service; ring and have a chat would be my suggestion....... :y
-
Parts and Labour ARE included.
Accessories are not.
It would be nice to see each defined.
A chat has to be a good starting point, as I can detail most of what wants replacing.

Even none service items? if that is the case then it is an excellent service back up, and should be used in selling / advertising in the first place; it would make me think next time I have to replace out vacuum cleaner.......... :y

Thats how it heads to me, and also what research suggests...
Gotta be worth a call
-
Iiirc they don't guarantee to match coloured parts. Depends whats on the van.
But they are so multicoloured anyway, it won't look particularly out of place ime.
-
Dont really care about the colour....being in one piece would be a good start!
-
Just about to order a load of bits for my Dyson so i'm glad I saw this :y
-
I've never used it, as the parts are fairly cheap (pattern).
However, if the motor fails again, I may be tempted, as the pattern motors seem to last about 2 years (mind you, the original Dyson one lasted about the same, which they fixed under warranty, this 2nd lasted years).

The most problematic part is the mains flex. Dyson will not provide it to anyone other than their own authorised repairers. The tat from egay is utter shite tat, guaranteed to last just long enough that you have no comeback with gaypal, before blowing a rather great hole in the flex.
Hoses, seems the pattern ones from the local market last as well as the dyson ones, and a lot cheaper.
Motors I've already mentioned. Actually, the jury is still out. The one that lasted a year was another egay special. Useless tat. The current pattern one came from Mancs Vacs, touch wood, still going strong.

Only an eejit fits pattern parts! :P

Only an eejit pays £70 for a bloody cord replacement :P
As well you know, like Omegas, there are times for patterns, and time for genuine ;). I was going to say only an eejit buys part worns

Not worth culling his post count eh Jaime :(

Well yes, if it only needs a cord replaced. ::)
Far better to buy part warns to test your next tyre purchase, than pay £700 for brand new ones that don't work! Pmsl. :-X

Blimey a dc07.,my dco4 still going strong only had to replace the hose, and regular filter cleans.
-
I tend to ignore TB's reports of appliance failure as I assume he
abuses them much the same way he drives his car ;D, but my DC01 has less suck than an asthmatic grandmother now.. actually I've always thought it was that way from new :-\ :(
My £49 Wickes-own-brand cylinder, however, can suck the carpet tiles right off the floor (and regularly does in the garage ;D)
As the other half prefers the Dyson, though, maybe I should consider calling the service folks out. Are you going to go for it, Jimbob? Let us know how you get on..
-
Having to repair a vaccum cleaner, how does that work. ;D ;D ;D ;D
Its one of the only appliances I have never had to touch repair wise including the Hoover which er-indoors overheated (they have useful things like thermal cutouts so it was simply a case of waiting for it to cool down)
-
..... but my DC01 has less suck than an asthmatic grandmother now.. actually I've always thought it was that way from new....
Me too. Hardly surprising when you look at the air path through the thing. Right angles, sharp edges and little rubber flaps everywhere. Every opportunity to create a point where it's likely to block has been enthusiastically exploited, and this by someone who keeps getting touted as some sort of hero of British "engineering". ::)
Suitable only for fashion victims, but I refuse to throw mine away until it actually breaks. ;D

I reckon you could just loan it to TB for a week.. ;D
-
arronjb - If you've not washed out the filter in the last 3 months, do so (not the hepa one though!).
Then use an airline to clean up the cyclone.
-
Blockages are visible through the transparent mouldings so likely the filter.

If asthmatic, inform SWMBO that this constitutes a "pink job". :(
-
Just to throw something into the pot - All Dyson Vacuum cleaners have a 5 year Warranty - They come to your house to fix it 'if' it goes wrong within that period.
I still run a DC07. It has purple bits, blue bits, and a yellow bit. It's well and truly shagged......... but it works better than any VAX, Henry (Numatic), or Hoover, so it stays.
Proper geeky boring Woman stuff, but I've had a DC01, DC04, DC07 and DC12 (which is with my parents now)..... I got the DC07 back as I felt it was better. Never tried the later ones. They 'look' flimsy :(
