Been trying to trade my miggy in latley and found out it was a cat D in 2008 :'( :'( worth even less than fu@@ all now
brought it from a dealer in 2011 no mention of this whatsoever >:( >:(
surley all the dealer will say is he did not know if i was to confront him as it happened in 2008
any suggestions
-
If you didn't specifically ask the question and carry out an HPI check then you have no complaint whatsoever :'(
-
Just to add, there might be summat on the front page of the V5 :-\
-
:'( :'( thought as much thanks Al. :y
All it say on reg doc is registered keeper bell end, then its got my name :-[ :-[
-
Surely the dealer has to declare it's cat D to any potential purchaser. :(
-
True Mr Opti, but a sloppy seller might not know/care. Besides if sold as part ex clearance or similar, whilst implying summat might be wrong, it is ultimately upto the buyer to ask direct and specific questions.
Live and learn :y

he was not a main dealer bit of a knob dealer really with the problems Daz sorted out for me. I am sure he wwill just say did not know anything about it.
Unless i have the old advert and sales invoice :) :) that says
Sold as Seen..Doh :-[ :'( bangs head on desk

How much will it being a Cat D kill it's value by, Mr L?. :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

If in A1 cond after repair most will say 30% - 40% less
When your car is only worth a K or so, not really that painful tbh

Cat D's are not always damaged/repaired in any way. A car "can" be cat D if it is stolen and the insurance have paid out to the original owner before the car is recovered. as the insurance has settled it is "legally" an insurance write-off (cat d) but can be totally pristine when recovered.

+1, I've seen cat D's with just the locks done and no other visible damage :y

value dropped by 50% was hoping for about the £1k mark wishfull thinking really was offered £250 today :'( :'( On a £10k car and £600 previous but i dont think they carried out an hpi. i may put an add in for sale as wifey uses it for the dogs now and i have just got her a vectra diesel estate and i really need something more economical for work.
I have my mates at Pentagon putting a deal together based on an insigni and the fact that i do not take them to court ref the van seat problem so will see tomorrow but if its not going to effect the deal will put it in for sale for whatever i get offered :y :y, cant really afford to keep it sadly tax due end of month too
cant really see any main areas of dammage only the gear box problems i had which may or may not have had something to do with it, but sorted out by Daz and runs very smooth so bit shocked to be honest.
Lesson Learnt

Unfortunately - Caveat emptor ???
-
just something if i did the deal with pentagon theres a nice set of wheels on it with virtually brand new tyres budgets that could be replaced before it gets there CD spec :y

I thought it should mention brief detials of the damage on the Log Book, bottom front page, assuming Log Book up to date?
-
That was my understanding of it as well :-\
-
I thought Cat D was purely a 'financial' thing and therefore it wasn't reported on logbooks? :-\
-
CAT D doesn't normally go on a log book. CAT C, does :y.
-
That has changed recently I believe :-\
-
Cat D cosmetic
Cat C structural
B or less should be scrapped.
...I thought.
Just keep it. Worth very little anyway now. :'(

How has the dealer found this out Luvvie? Did they do a HPI?
Would they bother on an old car that they'll ship straight out to auction or contacts? :-\

a couple od dealers didnt, but vauxhalls did :( :(, carried out my own now to be sure to be sure and there it is :o :-[

You could try and investigate the circumstances :-\ if it was something silly like stolen with keys and not recovered until later :y
Even if worse, at least you'll know :-\
