You can replace them with normal shockers, but as symes suggests, the Elites springs softer & are designed to be fitted with self levelling shockers. New OE shockers can be bought for around £150 for the pair if bought with a Trade Club card (or via andyc )

If you have any load carrying requirements, especially in an estate, keep the self levelling.
As said, if changing to standard shocks, the car will drag its arse unless you upgrade the springs, as the sl springs are designed to have the sl shocks support them.
So replacing like for like is also the cheapest option.
(If the springs ever brake, you can fit standard springs as any springs work with sl shocks. Then your options are open ;) )

thanks very much for the advice,
i've got an mot due and have a few things to deal with, so i'm try to keep expense down, but i also want to keep my miggy, so i've been looking at all options, hoping that it hasn't reached that time where it becomes a money pit :)

KYB springs are reasonably quality and a good price. I believe they are around £60 a pair. ;)

When messing about with the wheels today i noticed my Elite has KYB shocks and springs and drives just as good as any other Omega.

SL? £90 delivered last I looked.

No,standard springs.OP was enquiring about binning self levelling.

Very disappointed when I had KYB, they rusted and snapped inside 2 years. Got Boge springs on 2.2 currently, lasting much better :)

Had a small leak on one of mine, has disappeared now and the damping seems to work fine so I may put it to the MOT as is. When my last shock failed it was very evident, - press down on wing and watch the corner keep bouncing.
