Title: Rear brake pad clip
Post by: tunnie on 02 June 2013, 19:22:28
Had occasional squeeking from drivers rear other day, disappeared but stripped down today to investigate. Found the clip that holds the rear pads in, that loops under the pins is missing.

Can this be purchased individually or part of a kit from a dealer? Otherwise I'll get one from a breaker :)

Part number 90509233 packet of 2. The rivets go, don't they?

That they do ::) Is that P/N for vented or solid :-\

Cheers, the pins are corroded but still good. Heard they were pricey, though no idea how much the clips are.

Assume clip is same vented/solid discs?

Clip just loops under pins, so whats the difference?  :-\

As with the pins, the clip is wider to sit on the pad backing :y

Use the narrow ones and eventually the clip will settle between the backing plates and effectively switch the rear brakes off by jamming the pads apart...

But what do I know ::)

Available seperately.

Got some in garage, as I like to keep a spare set, but I get the feeling they may be for the Elite.

Oh really? That a pad set, recall rear pads are dirt cheap, around £10? As I did buy some myself a year or so back, they never came with new pins though  :(

I suspect we're talking 'the real deal' vs Trade Club pads.  ;) I've never had a set of pads come with pins and/or clips either, mine have all been TC

Must be, as recall little fatty mentioning pins were expensive and worth re-using unless they've really had it.

I am learning all the while. I suppose the pins are different for vented and unvented too. I did check my spare pair of rear calipers and they are the same width as the 3.2 vented caliper. I have not checked my 2 litre calipers. Is it the case that all V6 cars have ventilated rear discs and all 4 cylinder cars have solid rear discs?

Vented only on 3.2, maybe 2.6? Ca't remember.

Very early 2.0, think pre 1996 had smallers front discs, but all other Omega's V6/Diesel/4pot all have same disc and pad size all around  :y

Yes. As, you've discovered, the vented disc's calipers are wider, hence a longer pin required.

No.
Vented discs are fitted to the rear of DBW V6s  :y

Assuming Black beauty is your 3.2 estate I hope to God you didn't fit them :-\

Last time I bought all the bits, they came to £20 ish :-\ pads are available from £8 up and are the same as Carlton/Senator, although the £15 for TC pads is pretty good imho :y

The issue with the clips is tha eventually the rivets rot out and the the clip just falls apart. Prudent to change them every 2 or 3 pad changes on condition.

;D if only it were that simple...

My excuse for a factors only supply Apec fitting kits, and apparently they don't make the vented kits... :-\

Yeah, but I insist that the left pedal does something useful, hence am a tad picky on using cheap crap pads.

I have to agree, the Omega manual box isn't conducive to clutchless changes :P
