Title: How to fit a new MAF sensor?

HI everyone, ok, got my new MAF sensor, instructions say I need to disconnect the battery, press brake pedal for 1 minute, then wait 15 minutes for all power to discharge, is that really necessary or can I just unplug the old one and put the new one in?

Just un plug and replace
With the ignition off  ;)

Thanks guys. Next question...

The new sensor is in and the car is running terribly, sometimes it won't idle and when pulling away from a standstill there's a big flat spot and then a surge. Does the car need some time to 'learn' there is a new sensor in? If I unplug the sensor then the car runs fine. I've done about 15 miles with the new sensor in and there's no change. :(

Is it a genuine Vx MAF sensor or pattern - pattern ones tend to be crap :(

I just went through this dilemma with my Catera. I changed O2 front sensors on both sides, then went after the MAF. The first one did not change anything, but after returning it, the second immediately made everything right. I had power and smoothness again. At the $270 price you would hope two trips to the store not necessary. I believe had I not been doing business with these men for 10 years, they could have opted to not exchange an electrical part. What is the policy in your area? I also did the work in their parking lot, as it is quick and easy with just a screwdriver.
