I have just fitted a new solenoid to a front door which is operating ok but the outside door handle rod has come away from its location. Can anyone try to explain to me where it goes and what I have to dismantle to do it. The inside handle is working ok. Pictures or drawings would be a big help.

Think I may have done it The end of the threaded rod with a plastic nut fits into a green hole ? Fitted by feel cant see much in there espec :'(ially with your hand in the way. Putting it all back now and hope for the best

having done the job a couple of points on my v6 f/l the speaker needs no attention unless my speaker isnt wired up,it is not neccessary to take out the switch cluster unless you want to remove the card completely. As it is very difficult to see inside the door I found that to attach the rod which comes up to the lock pin it was best to have the lock mechanism loose(not bolted in) fit the rod and then bolt in the Lock mechanism. As far as releasing the multiplug the cable was very short and I had to release a cable support from the base of the door to get the solenoid high enough to get a hold on it. Can you tell me which models have side air bags?

..... Can you tell me which models have side air bags?
I think it's more of an age thing rather than model specific. My 99 miniface lift has them :y

All the FL (2000-2004) range have them fitted not so sure about the older models :-\

As Omegaman says ......... the bit where it says airbag ;)

Have been reading up a bit about airbags and the need to have a good seal on the door membrane to make air tight. How can this be done with the lock knob lever going through it.

It can't be completely airtight, too many things are screwed & bolted through it .... and there's a gap at the top where the window winds up & down. I think it works more like when you pop a crisp packet by slapping the closed end, it wasn't air tight, but was was air tight enough to burst the seal at the other end. ;)

Thanks Andy I had forgot the window gap and of course there are the cable runs. Learn something every day Anyway fitted solenoid to drivers door and all working OK not a job I would want too often but done once or twice I suppose it is a doddle thanks again

And if you take pop up pin rod off the lot comes out the door to work on :y

Thanks for the link to tunnies method. There seems to be a lot of dismantling which I would have thought unnecessary but it does help to see the whole mechanism and where everything goes.

I avoided unplugging the connector from the switch cluster in the door card because it looked very complex and I didnt want to make another job repairing it. Is it a complicated plug and socket or was I just chicken. :'(

Whenever I've replaced the front lock solonoids I've always completely removed the doorcard (unplugging the switches) to gain as much clear access as possible.

yes but that plug and socket looks very complex or am I wrong
