Aye , most items are just wear and tare i guess like drop links ect . Apparently stem seals are a common fault as the car ages they go hard and split , dont know if its service related as like inefficient regular oil changes or they just eat stem seals on a regular basis . Still at least with the head off i can kill 2 birds with one stone and do the cambelt while its all in bits . Think ill be checking the lifters as well as the last time i took cams out and put back together the lifters started playing up ... hey ho ::)

Why would anyone move away from an omega? Especially for a cheaper car? And especially given this particular web site...!
Explain yourself sir! :)
-
Had some tw4t on GayBay try and offer me a Fiat Stilo in exchange for my Omega ;D
I could barely resist telling him to 'break orf', resorting to a 'PMSL no, thanks' ::)
Note of curiosity:
Word filter likes tw4t but not Father Jack quotes ::)

Because fuel it was drinking was costing me a fortune and the lifters were playing up , besides all that there was rot on the chassis , the shocks on the back needed replacing plus the self L pump was knackered . Wheel arches were rotten , cant think of anymore ;D

Ok, but to replace it with a French pile of shite, and then a vectra...?
Lpg an omega and stop dicking about. ::)

Frenchy was a mistake i hold my hands up :-[ ;D LPG would be my choice for omega next time but running on a budget even when i had the mig was hard to do . Every car has its problems , i just seem to pick the ones that always need money spending on them >:( ::) :(
-
This is the problem with Omega's, the vast majority you buy now through Autotrader or Ebay will require a reasonable level of work on them to get them back to a decent standard.... then you've got the losing battle of tin worm beginning it's journey through your car starting at the arches.
If the right spec car had come up for sale on here I would have snapped it up because I know the chances are it would be in far better condition than from the sources listed above.
Despite the continuous slating on here, I am confident that when funds allow, i'll be looking at a 520d or 530d E60 BMW cause by that time I won't be able to buy another decent Omega.
-
I love the omegas mate dont get me wrong , on here there are some immaculate cars that need nothing but servicing and tyres ... if only i could afford a nice one but your talking a lot of money for a mint one that needs nothing doing to it , my funds wont stretch that far and not for some time .. would like a 3.2 estate in an ideal world but will have to wait :( Rust is an issue with all the older ones esp on the doors and rear arches like you say but all mine have had that problem ...just patch it up and do your best but my last mig had more problems than was worth keeping it on the road :'(
