Title: Front Track rod end - Rubber 'boots'
Post by: MV6Matt on 18 June 2013, 20:42:15
Having replaced both front track rods in March - am dismayed to see that all 4 rubber 'boots'/covers are perished. >:(
This is an MOT failure. :-\

Does any one know if these rubber covers are available separately? I'd rather not have to get two more complete sets of track rods

Does anyone know?

Matthew

Where did you source them from?

Name and shame.

No experience of replacing the boots though, sorry.

Or did I see mention of the boots being available from most factors and needing to know the size.... Can't remember who's thread it was. :-\

A decent factor will probably have the boots, and if they stock the TREs might let you check the size.

Or try here www.balljointboots.co.uk

I have had the same problem with two sets of track rods. I can only think they must be cheap patten parts.

Did not realise the boots were available separately! It's quite an annoying exercise to keep changin them as the tracking has to be re-done.

Sorry, just to add anyone know the size boots that are needed from that site as I am away from the car for a few days and would like to get them ordered.

Only an mot failure if the boots are split and do not stop the ingress of dirt or water :y

Thanks for the replies, folks; I'll answer as best I can:-

Where did I get 'em? Place not far from me in essex - I'll have to look it up from the receipt.

Thanks for the site address - I think the smallest ones on the left of screen look just the job. think that's where next. :y

I have been told they are an MOT failure already by the garage I get my MOT done by - - I've been hearing knocking (similar to worn drop links) and got them to check it out so I won't be caught out at MOT time in September.

Thanks for the help and advice :y ;)

I got some from egay, about a pound for 3.

BUT it shows how shite the TREs are. Sorry to keep banging on about it, but the costs involved in setting car up afterwards, its worth paying the extra tenner for GM. GM ones are good for about 7-10yrs IME. Pattern (including what Autovaux sell as genuine) often won't outlive the warranty.
