Title: When changing the cam belt on a V6
Post by: Vamps on 18 June 2013, 22:45:04
Do you need to change the water pump, as with the 4 pot?

No, because it's driven by the Aux belt, however, in my opinion you may as well!

Some say to change the waterpump every second cambelt change (80K), the choice is yours really.

No as its not cambelt driven,I know a lot of folk do change it but aftermarket pump quality is a bit of a lottery so if it was mine and was quiet with no play and not leaking it would stay there :y

Not essential, as it won't take out the cam belt when it goes. There have been some quality issues with them recently, so I wouldn't, TBH.

Worth changing the coolant if it's been in there a while, though.

Source the SKF full Aux kit which includes the belt, pump and complete tensioner assembly and is a quality product.  ;)

Thanks for the replies, if my Independent has not done it then I can stop him and save a few £'s...... ::) ::)

I know that we did not replace on my 2.2 only for the pump to go about 8 months later... ::) ::)

Recommendation used to be change it while you where there, that was before pump prices soared on TC, followed by cheaper ones failing very quickly. So advice now is to leave it unless it looks in a bad way or leaking  :)
