Right then.... the above mentioned noises where present before i changed the wishbones, drop links, steering idler and front struts and springs.... only things i havnt changed are the tie rods and centre bar thing but the kind of noises im getting wouldnt be them anyway so what else can it be?
-
Strut top mount bearings maybe ?

Strut top mount bearings maybe ?
+1 :y or car not on ground when wishbones tightened up ;)-probably had front end up on stands when wishbones tightened
-
What kind of noises? In time with road bumps? Or steering movement? ...guessing not road wheel speed from the title...?
If everything s tight and torqued correctly;
Play in the centre tie bar, track rod ends
Loose bumper or wheel arch liner
Wheel bearing play
Calliper slider wear
Loose pinch bolts from knuckle to wishbone pin
Or any bolt torqued too low
....Can all give mid knocks over bumps.
Knocks and creaks during steering input can come from the steering box bolts to body, and likewise from the steering idler bracket to body.
No experience of top shock mount faults, but I'm sure they can knock too. Are they, and everything else, tightened correctly? Etc ? :)

has plastic body with ridges around outside-they wear down allowing movement ;) especially v6 migs

oh jeez so much to think about here.... as i said noise was there prior to replacing all the bits i mentioned... think i shall either let it develop so i can pin point it or take to garage and let them look...
-
did you change parts or garage mate
-
?
-
did you change wishbones etc or did garage do them
-
?
Did you do the work yourself ?
I must admit I presumed diy, so a loose torque setting might be more likely to be repeated in correctly, or sumat not done up tight enough before AND after.
But if a garage did the work... actually, could also be likely something is still loose before and after, if the same garage is always used. Perhaps?
You've not really given enough info about the noise tbh.

i seeeee i did them with a mate ..
-
hard to explain what the noise sounds like in text... can only say its a clunk.. only when turning wheel not travelling along... no vibrations when driving or any wandering about..
-
so was car on ground before you tighten up wishbones--probably no--that is whats wrong--car needs to be on floor-all wheels on ground before you tighten mounting bolts for wishbones :y
-
right then so is it a coincidence the noise is the same before and after the wishbone change? if i get someone to do it for me whats the torque sequence for them and what Nm and they set at?
-
it's all here mate http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90658.0 :y :y

Oh dear oh dear... think your right about the car needing to be flat when doing wishbones??
-
reply number 3 ;) if that not it then let us know- :y

If its just when turning the steering wheel you need to be looking at the steering mechanism. Column, steering box, and ball joints.
I'd suggest jacking the car onto stands, steering lock off, and turn the road wheels from under neith while holding each ball joint in turn, feeling for knocks, shocks due to a dry ball joint, or for any play. Not forgetting the steering idler and pitman arm to box and the box itself.
You'll see where the box and idler bracket are bolted to the body. These bolts csn give a creak that is so low frequency that it feels like a knock.
Also, from the drivers footwell you can feel the knuckle clamp from column to steering box input shaft for knocking, and the shaft for play.

Ahaaaa it was the wishbones that where the problem..... bolts not tight enough... local garage charged £15 to sort it.. Result....
-
What, and it didn't affect the steering?
...and did they tighten them wheels loaded?
-
steering felt a little odd before hand yes but not now... steering wheel lined up just right and all feels as tight as a drum... knocking noises gone..
-
And... The old ones where loose as well then ?
-
he told me how they should have been fitted and it was as described same as you lot did..
-
the old ones where buggered... front bushes in both you could virtually pull out with fingers
-
glad you sorted mate :y :y

me toooooo.. could have burst into tears when he said all was ok hehe
