think that is my No1 priority after tonight chris. HBV packed in at 8pm tonight and just walked in the door now after poor old miggy has been towed on 2 recovery wagons from nottingham to oxford then oxford to home. Mayday call going out to fellow OOFERS for a new HBV first thing in the morning . Felt like beating it with a branch Basil Fawlty style earlier but its sad eyelids staring up at me made me just feel for it. Bless her.

Can these be changed on the roadside then with minimal tools and stripping required ?, May carry them as well then..

Thanks symes for the offer. Got the part ordered today ,reasonable price as well. All ive got to do is try and get the time to fit it which is near on impossible for the next week or so. So i might be calling the cavalry to come to the rescue.

Actually, on checking, no :-\

Someone else's hbv failed, so I replaced his with my spare, and haven't replaced it. :(

Next trip to the dealers...

Question.

Given the height of the hbv, where would the water level sit within the cooling system and would it still operate efficiently enough to get by?

I suspect the level would still sit above the water gallery around the oil cooler.

I guess it depends how badly the hbv fails and if the system depressurises enough to boil over and hence over heat.

I have driven a 5 miles or so with a failed hbv while watching the temp gauge like a hawk. Didn't move noticeably, although that's quite a short distance.

Touch wood, all my HBV failures haven't been that bad, always managed to get home, occasionally with a top up.

But I've had a couple of more spectacular hose failures, fortunately both times with 5 miles of home.

Chrisgixer might be able to help, he's in that neck of the woods but is often a tad busy ... worth a try though ..

PM him, he commented on the first page of the thread .. :)
