I can't believe it! Borat was the #1 film in the US this weekend. Played in less than a quarter of the cinemas that Tim Allen played in, but took in more than 5x per cinema! Played to full houses!
I don't get it. Kazakhstan is bothered about this film, but everyone knows that the Borat character is completely fictional. Whereas the Americans in the film are not! :o Be interesting to see what Americans are saying in a week or so when they start to get the joke . . . ;D ;D

I know its a "funny" film, but there are parts of it (trailers I've seen) that make me squirm with embarrasment.

I reckon this film will be a complete cringe-fest. I just love his accent.

Hey some will! OK, not anyone in government or journalism until someone else explains it to them, and maybe not even then ::)

I went to see it on Monday night. It has its dodgy moments, but in general its a very funny film that you can just watch with your mates 8-)

Cool. Apparently he already has a contract for $29M to do another film as the Austrian gay tv reporter ;D

Booked my tickets for tomorrow night

The Government of Kazakhstan having initially had strong objections to the film have since realised that there is no such thing as bad publicity and changed their mind. Their Embassies in both London and the US have been inundated with enquiries and tourist visa applications. The film may yet turn into something of a tourist windfall for their very poor country. The man in the street in Kazakhstan however does not appear to be that impressed. One very mean looking chap who described his occupation as an eagle hunter said (of Sasha Cohen) "If that pig ever turns up in this country I will kill him" I got the impression he meant what he was saying.

I'd like to see him roam the streets of Kazakhstan dressed in the yellow ghetto pimp gear of Ali G biggin up the Staines Massiv.

I saw it yesterday – and ALL parts make me squirm with embarrassment... the nude wrestling scene tops it all.
Yet I liked it.... As for the Americans, it is easy to say that the movie shows how idiotic they are, but in a country of 300,000,000 inhabitants you can always find odd and bizarre communities, so we shouldn't stereotype them based on the movie.
But it was hilarious – I liked even though it is vulgar, it precisely because he has no shame at all.

Excellent Film! Nude Wrestling was just so funny (and gross)
If you haven't seen it then go and do so, but leave you Political Correctness hat at home
