Good old Fred posing for a photo on top of Bolton Parish Church. Now that's what I call a head for heights.

Ahh Fred Dibnah, such a character love the TV shows he did, such enthusiasm. :)

No H&S risk assessments existed for much of his career and he didn't die with his boots on. :y :y :y

Of course they did.
They're just something you did without falling for any of the procedural bullshit that has become more important than the actual risk.

My ex had an uncle, called Billy Caton, who was a high level steeplejack. He once had a photograph taken in the much same way as Fred in that picture, but doing a hand stand on top of a very high chimney!
He also had claim to fame by once falling off a Kodak factory chimney and landing in a wheel barrow. Badly injured, but he survived. His last work before he retired was working "in the lights" at The Albert Hall. His big problem though was he loved his drink, and was rarely sober apart from when he was climbing chimneys and church spires! :D :D :)

Fred was the type of Brit who built the Empire. His breed are nearly all gone now, never to be seen again in this guise sadly :(
-
He's honoured with a statue in town next to an old mill engine which is preserved in a glass case.
A fitting tribute to a great Boltonian.

An amazingly simple way to demolish a large chimney. I doubt they'd let him do it like this now, as it would fail the emissions test!! ;)
